Pashupatinath, listed in the World Heritage Site; is the holiest temple in Nepal. According to Hindu mythology, among all the 12 Jyotirlingas ( sacred shrines dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva) spread in India and Nepal – Pashupatinath is the most important one and holds highest reverence among Hindus. Devotees consider each of these shrines to be a manifestation of Shiva. People from far and wide, specially from India come to Pashupatinath temple during Mahashivratri, considered the most auspicious day to offer puja to Lord Shiva and seek his blessings.
The program held on the grounds of Shankaracharya Math within the temple premises had a huge crowd of devotees glued to the stage all throughout the evening until the program came to a halt. The cultural performance was equally enjoyed by tourists seen to be grooving to the powerful Shiva bhajans. Programs like these help foster the special relations shared by Nepal and India through special cultural, deep-rooted people to people contacts, economic and friendship they share from time immemorial.
