MUMBAI, February 8, 2026Nepal Reaffirms Leadership in Adventure Tourism with Back-to-Back Wins at OTM Mumbai

MUMBAI, February 7, 2026 — The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has concluded a highly successful participation at the Outbound Travel Mart (OTM) Mumbai 2026, held at the Jio World Convention Centre. This year’s event marked a strategic milestone for Nepal, characterized by an unprecedented scale of representation and a significant surge in interest from the Indian travel market.

Award-Winning Excellence Nepal was honored with the prestigious Best Adventure & Experiential Tourism Award 2026, following its 2025 win as the Best Adventure Destination. This consecutive victory solidifies Nepal’s position as a premier global hub for high-adrenaline activities and innovative, community-backed travel experiences.

A Market in Growth Despite recent regional shifts, Nepal demonstrated remarkable resilience. January 2026 saw a 30% growth in interest from Indian travelers compared to the previous year. To capitalize on this, a delegation of 34 prominent tourism companies showcased a diversified portfolio ranging from traditional trekking to luxury mountain resorts, heritage hotels, and MICE facilities.

Strategic Advantages & Digital Integration A key highlight of the event was the promotion of “frictionless travel” for Indian visitors. Leveraging the 1,850 km open border and the landmark digital payment agreement between NPCI and Fonepay, travelers can now use UPI-enabled apps (like Google Pay and PhonePe) at over a million merchant locations across Nepal. This integration, combined with Nepal’s focus on “techno-anxiety” relief through nature and spirituality, allowed the Nepal Pavilion to outperform regional competitors.

Leadership Perspective Reflecting on the event’s success, Mr. Suman Ghimire, Senior Manager of the Nepal Tourism Board, noted:

“Nepal has found a deep resonance with the Indian market by offering authentic, community-backed products. Our presence here has aggressively reinforced Nepal’s status as a stable and extraordinary destination. While there is a clear demand for increased flight frequency to match rising interest, our diverse offerings—from casino tourism to sacred pilgrimage circuits—continue to set us apart.”

High-Impact Representation The Nepal Pavilion’s prime positioning at the Jio World Convention Centre with 220 sq meters area occupancy ensured maximum visibility and facilitated intensive B2B networking. The delegation, led by Mr. Suman Ghimire and supported by Senior Officers Sagar Shrestha, Siddhartha Viswakarma, and Pradip Gaire, alongside Office Assistant Jhamak Prasad Ghimire, successfully transitioned Nepal’s image from a classic trekking locale to a multifaceted destination for luxury, wellness, and spiritual tourism.
