Bengal Travel Mart (BTM) 2022 & Sales Mission in BiharSaturday, March 12th, 2022

Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) along with NATTA Province One Chapter leading a group of 20 travel trade companies from Biratnagar, Kakarbhitta, Illam, Dharan, Damak, Itahari and Pokhara participated in Bengal Travel Mart (BTM) 2022 organized by the Eastern Himalayan Travel and Tour Operators’ Association (EHTTOA) in the commercial city of Siliguri, West Bengal in India, on 5-7 March, 2022.

The 6th edition of the Mart was organized physically after two years of COVID-19 induced hiatus. The 3-day event bagged an enthusiastic response from all the exhibitors, visitors and key regional travel and tourism players. At the mart the prime message from Nepal’s travel trade companies was that: Nepal is safe to travel and ready to welcome travelers from border town and North East India. The platform was also applied to promote the imminent 3 rd edition of East Tourism Mart (ETM) 2022 to be held in Dharan from 25-27 March 2022.
The 40 sq. m open faced layout of Nepal Tourism Board was the right corridor for the Nepali delegation to interact with the Indian counterparts. The participatory companies from Nepal received an enthusiastic response in terms of productive interactions, direct business, business prospects and meaningful networking.

Nepal has been always a top-of-the-mind destination for Indian tourists and India being the biggest source market, the mart actually bridged the two years gap relation in tourism and encouraged Indian tourists to once again visit Nepal. Many of the Indian visitors to Nepal stalls even suggested our travel trade companies to develop a competitive packages thinking out of the box to attract Indian tourist as they are really interested to come Nepal.

With the aim to tap the outbound in Bihar, NTB along with the group of 11 travel trade representatives from Province 1 (Biratnagar, Kakarvitta, Illam, Dharan, Damak and Itahari and Pokhara) organized an interactive business session with the counterparts in Purniya, Bihar on 7 March, 2022 coinciding productive business session in the presence of notable media personnel, hoteliers, travel and tour operators, corporates and adventure tourism groups.

The sole agenda for the sales mission was to connect border tourism hub with eastern travel trade representatives and to extend them invitation to the 3 rd edition of East Tourism Mart (ETM) 2022. Purniya, as a satellite city in the state of Bihar, presents/poses a good opportunity for the East Nepal tourism with multiple connectivity options, religious and cultural resources in Nepal, and also numerous hill stations in East Nepal offering a pleasant escape from the generally hot temperature of Bihar.

Whereas the participants almost univocally expressed the ever high willingness to travel to and promote Nepal, their only concern was how hassle-free mobility for Bihar travellers can be eased. NTB assured the assembly of positive and proactive facilitation with concerned Nepali agencies and policy makers. The program saw enthusiastic presence of prominent Indian media Awaz24 News, ABJ News, BJP News, Dainik Bhaskar, Prabhat Khabar, Aaj Tak News and others.

The Nepal delegation to these events comprised of NTB officials Mr. Udaya Bhattarai and Ms. Srijana Nepali. NTB made a destination presentation to the participants showcasing products matching the major motivations of prospective local travellers.
