Nepal Delegation Holds Exclusive Bilateral Meeting with UN Tourism at Headquarters in MadridSaturday, March 29th, 2025

Madrid, Spain | March 29, 2025 – A high-level Nepalese delegation, led by Mr. Binod Prakash Singh, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation (MoCTCA), held an exclusive bilateral meeting with UN Tourism officials at the UN Tourism Headquarters in Madrid. The meeting aimed to strengthen Nepal’s collaboration with UN Tourism and explore new avenues for technical assistance and joint initiatives. 

Mr. Harry Huang, Director of the Regional Department for Asia & the Pacific, UN Tourism, warmly welcomed the Nepalese delegation, emphasizing that this was a historic moment, as it marked the first visit of such a high-ranking Nepalese government official to UN Tourism Headquarters. He reiterated UN Tourism’s commitment to assisting Nepal in its tourism growth and development efforts.

Secretary Mr. Binod Prakash Singh expressed Nepal’s deep appreciation for UN Tourism’s past assistance, particularly in: Technical support for the Nepal Tourism Strategic Plan (2016-2025)
and Nepal’s participation in UN Tourism events, including the ITB Berlin Ministerial Meeting 2025. He further requested enhanced collaboration in emerging areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Digital Innovation, and Sustainable Tourism Development.

Dr. Narayan Prasad Regmi, Director General of the Department of Tourism, affirmed Nepal’s commitment to the UN Tourism vision, stating that Nepal will now have more frequent engagement with UN Tourism. He also requested for assistance in integrating innovative strategies into Nepal’s national tourism policies and support in promoting inclusive tourism and equal distribution of tourism benefits

Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) officials reiterated their commitment to working under the leadership of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation to develop joint programs with UN Tourism. They highlighted Nepal’s potential in adventure tourism, eco-tourism, and rural tourism, seeking collaborative projects to enhance Nepal’s global tourism positioning.

Mr. Harry Huang reaffirmed UN Tourism’s continuous support to Nepal, inviting Nepal to actively participate in future UN Tourism programs and knowledge-sharing platforms. He also stated that UN Tourism could extend further assistance if Nepal submitted a specific proposal outlining its key priorities and requirements.

Nepal Tourism Board was represented by Mr. Khadga Bikram Shah, Senior Manager and Mr. Kundan Sharma Mishra, Senior Officer. Mr. Purak Adhikari, Second Secretary, Embassy of Nepal in Madrid was also present in the meeting.

The meeting concluded on a highly positive note, marking a significant step towards deepening Nepal’s engagement with UN Tourism. The discussions are expected to pave the way for new partnerships, innovative tourism strategies, and enhanced global visibility for Nepal’s tourism sector.
