Expanding Tourism Benefits to Villages: NTB at Gantabya GandakiWednesday, January 22nd, 2025

Pokhara, January 22, 2025. The first session of the “Gantabya Gandaki” program established a transformational vision for tourism in the Gandaki Province, where ‘Every corner must feel and see the impact of tourism, and also it must reach every rural area.‘ Organized under the theme “Identifying Provincial Problems and Exploring Prospects,” it converged all the stakeholders in formulating effective policies and strategies for the sustainable development of this industry.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of NTB, Deepak Raj Joshi, the development of the tourism sector must reach the economic benefits to rural areas as well. “While Gandaki Province has vast opportunities for tourism development, these benefits tend to get concentrated in urban centers. Tourism infrastructure should be developed in villages so that the local communities can benefit from the inclusive opportunities,” Joshi said in his key note presentation.
The first session, “Politics and Tourism Policies,” was graced by the following esteemed panel of participants:
Tekraj Gurung, Minister for Economic Affairs of Gandaki Province
Dhanraj Acharya, Mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City
Deepak Raj Joshi, Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board
Lucky Chhetri, Founder of 3 Sisters Adventure Trekking
Laxman Subedi, Chairman of Hotel Association, Pokhara

He also emphasized the need for prioritizing eco-tourism and cultural tourism initiatives to ensure sustainability and inclusivity.
