An interaction on Nepal’s tourism promotion in foreign countries with the Nepalese Ambassadors and dignitariesTuesday, July 27th, 2021

A virtual interaction program on Nepal’s tourism promotion with the Nepalese ambassadors and officials
working in embassies located in South Asia particularly India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Srilanka was
organized at Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) office on Tuesday.

The ambassadors attending the interaction were of the view that NTB should start doing preparation on
promoting tourism in neighboring countries which happens to be one of the major source markets of
Nepal in post COVID-19 scenario.

Speaking at the program, Nepalese Ambassadors to Bangladesh Dr. Banshi Dhar Mishra viewed that
Bangladesh is one of the biggest markets for Nepal’s tourism promotion. However, Ambassador Mishra
regretted for not aggressively promoting Nepal’s tourism targeting the Hindu as well as Buddhist
population in Bangladesh. He further highlighted the importance of enhancing connectivity between the
two countries for the promotion of tourism and development.

Similarly, Nepalese Ambassador to Pakistan Tapas Adhikari suggested that NTB develop promotional
materials in local languages for those people who doesn’t understand English though it’s an international
language.

Likewise, Minister Economics at the Nepalese Embassy in India Nita Pokharel affirmed that India is one
of the major source markets for Nepal’s tourism and added that the NTB should prioritize on developing
unique packages and marketing them to the Indians as Nepal is the easy and accessible destination to
them due to the similarly in language, religion, culture and cuisines.

Second secretary at the Nepalese embassy in Srilanka Biswas Bhatta stated that though the birth place of
Lord Buddha Lumbini is one of the popular and attractive destinations in Srilanka, the adventurous
tourism of Nepal can be marketed and popularized in such a way that more Sri lankans get attracted
towards visiting Nepal.

Second secretary Bhatta pointed out Nepal can learn from the development of tourism infrastructure in
Srilanka and expressed hope that the air connectivity between the two countries plays an important role in
ferrying Sri lankan tourists to Nepal.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at NTB Dr. Dhananjay Regmi laid emphasis on promoting and
developing Nepal an attractive, popular and unique tourism destination for people of all age groups and in
all seasons in foreign land.

CEO Dr. Regmi laid emphasis on the vital role that the Nepalese ambassadors can play in disseminating
information and positive messages of Nepal’s tourism in their respective countries where they are being
posted currently.
