Photo Exhibition by Kathmandu International Mountain Film FestivalWednesday, December 8th, 2021

On the occasion of the 19^th Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF), an exhibition of photographs and paintings related to climate change was held in the Nepal Tourism Board premises on Dec. 5, 2021. The exhibition organized by KIMFF was inaugurated by NTB CEO Dr. Dhananjay Regmi, who was positive that the exhibition would help raise public awareness about the impact of climate change. He also mentioned that the film festival would aid in the promotion of tourism. “The mountains are central to Nepal’s identity, the accompanying film exhibition will help spread positive message about Nepal’s mountains and climate change,” he said.

The exhibition, according to Ms. Ramyata Limbu, Festival Director of KIMFF, aims to inspire people to consider what they can do to mitigate the negative effects of climate change that are being felt locally and globally. Through the festival tagline “Climate Karma,” various images related to people and the environment are displayed. Mr. Sonam Wangchuk, a Ladakh environmentalist and Rolex Award winner, will be the keynote speaker at the KIMFF’s inaugural ceremony on Dec. 9, at Film Development Board’s auditorium, Chabahil. The program will be held from Dec. 9-13,.

This year, KIMFF and the European Union will present “Green Growth – Green Recovery” a short film competition for Nepali filmmakers. The 2021 jury includes Swiss journalist and mountaineer Mr. Mario Cassella, Swiss journalist and filmmaker Ms. Caroline Fink and Nepali theater actor and director Mr. Anup Baral. The jury will decide the best three films in the international competition out of 40 short films and the best documentary and fiction film in Nepal Panorama out of 13 short films.

The top three prizes for the international competition sponsored by Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), Himalaya International Mountain Film of China (HIMF), and Fredi-Ursula Wohlwend are NPR 200,000, NPR 150,000, and NPR 100,000, respectively. Nepal Film Development Board will sponsor a cash prize of Rs. 75,000 for Best Documentary, and Mila Productions will sponsor a cash prize of Rs. 100,000 for the Tsekye Sherpa Award for Best Fiction Award at Nepal Panorama. Similarly, the Best Mountain Film Award of US $ 1,000 is being sponsored by ICIMOD as stated by KIMFF.

अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय पर्वतीय चलचित्र महोत्सव (किम्फ) का अवसरमा फोटो प्रर्दशनी

काठमाडौँमा आयोजना हुन गईरहेको १९ औँ अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय पर्वतीय चलचित्र महोत्सव (किम्फ) को पूर्व सन्ध्यामा काठमाण्डौमा जलवायु परिवर्तन सम्बन्धि तस्वीतर तथा चित्रकला प्रर्दशनी गरिएको छ । नेपाल पर्यटन बोर्डमा आयोजना गरिएको उक्त प्रर्दशनीको नेपाल पर्यटन बोर्डका कार्यकारी प्रमुख डा. धनन्जय रेग्मीले शुभारम्भ गर्नुभयो । प्रर्दशनीको शुभारम्भ गर्दै कार्यकारी प्रमुख रेग्मीले किम्फ २०२१ को सन्र्दभमा आयोजना गरिएको प्रर्दशनीले जलवायु परिवर्तनले पारेको असरका बारेमा जनचेतना अभिवृद्धि गर्नुका साथै यो अवसरमा आयोजना हुने फिल्म महोत्सवले पर्यटन प्रर्वद्धन समेत सहयोग पुग्ने बताउनु भयो । ‘नेपालको पहिचान हिमालसँग जोडिएको छ । यससँग सम्बन्धित चलचित्र प्रर्दशनीले नेपालको हिमाल र समग्र विश्व परिवेशका बारेमा हिमालका बारेमा,जलवायुपरिवर्तनका बारेमा सकारात्मक सन्देश फैलाउन सघाउ पुग्नेछ ।’ उहाँले भन्नु भयो ।

प्रर्दशनीले स्थानीय र विश्वव्यापी रूपमा अनुभव भइरहेका जलवायु परिवर्तनका प्रतिकूल प्रभावहरूलाई कम गर्न के गर्न सक्छौं भन्ने विषयमा सोच्न उत्प्रेरित गर्ने गर्ने किम्फका फेस्टिवल डाइरेक्टर रमियता लिम्बुले जानकारी दिनुभयो । किम्फले आफ्नो महोत्सव उपशीर्षक ‘जलवायु कर्म’ का माध्यमबाट मानिस र वातावरणसँग सम्बन्धित विभिन्न तस्वीर प्रर्दशनीमा राखेको छ । यस्तै किम्फ फेस्टिवल अन्र्तगत चलचित्र विकास बोर्डको सभाकक्षमा दर्शकहरूको प्रत्यक्ष उपस्थिति र अनलाइनमा गरी  डकुमेन्ट्री, फिक्शन, प्रयोगात्मक, शर्ट फिल्म र एनिमेसन गरी विभिन्न २८ देशका ६० भन्दा बढी चलचित्रहरू देखाइने उहाँले जानकारी दिनुभयो ।  यही मङ्सीर २३ गतेदेखि २७ गतेसम्म, ( २०२१ डिसेम्बर ९ देखि १३)सम्म आयोजना हुने किम्फको उद्घाटन समारोहमा लद्दाखका पर्यावरणविद् र रोलेक्स पुरस्कार विजेता सोनम वाङ्चुकको मुख्य सम्भाषण रहने तथा अमेरिकी फिल्ममेकर काइल रुडिकद्वारा निर्देशित फिल्म “ड्रीम माउन्टेन“ को प्रदर्शन गरिने आयोजकले जानकारी दिएका छन् ।

यस वर्ष किम्फ र युरोपेली संघ संद्वारा नेपाली फिल्म निर्माताहरूका लागि ‘ग्रीन ग्रोथ– ग्रीन रिकभरी’ शीर्षक छोटा फिल्महरूको प्रतियोगिता प्रस्तुत गरिने भएको छ । किम्फ २०२१ को निर्णायक मण्डलमा स्विट्जरल्याण्डका पत्रकार तथा पर्वतारोही मारियो कासेला, स्विट्जरल्याण्डकी पत्रकार तथा चलचित्र निर्माता क्यारोलिन फिङ्क र नेपाली थिएटर कलाकार तथा निर्देशक अनुप बराल रहेका छन् । निर्णायक मण्डलले अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय प्रतियोगितामा उत्कृष्ट तीन वटा चलचित्र (छानिएका ४० वटा चलचित्र मध्येबाट) र नेपाल पानोरमामा उत्कृष्ट वृत्तचित्र र फिक्शन चलचित्र (छानिएका १३ वटा चलचित्र मध्येबाट) को निर्णय गर्ने बताइको छ । अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय प्रतियोगिताका लागि नेपाल पर्वतारोहण संघले रू २ लाख, हिमालय इन्टरनेशनल माउन्टेन फिल्म अफ चाइनाले १ लाख ५० हजार र फ्रेडी–उर्सुला वोहल्वेन्डले १ लाख, राशीको पुरस्कार प्रदान गर्नेछन । यस्तै किम्फमा नेपाल पनोरमा उत्कृष्ट वृत्तचित्रका लागि नेपाल चलचित्र विकास बोर्डले ७५ हजार  र उत्कृष्ट आख्यानात्मक फिल्मका लागि मिला प्रोडक्सनले रु १ लाख र इसिमोडले उत्कृष्ट माउन्टेन फिल्म अवार्डका लागि एक हजार अमेरिकी डलरको पुरस्कार प्रायोजित गरिएको किम्फले जानकारी दिएको छ ।
