January witnesses 98.4% recovery to pre-pandemic arrivalsSunday, February 2nd, 2025

The month of January 2025 has witnessed a normal growth trend in terms of International Visitors Arrivals. According to the Department of Immigration, 79,991 international visitors visited Nepal in January 2025, a cumulative increase of 1.1% over the same period in 2024. This arrival is 98.4% recovery in comparison with the pre-pandemic arrivals on the months of January 2019.

Tourist arrivals from India in January 2025 were 20,485, a slight decline of 15% in comparison to the month of 2024, whereas 15% more than the arrivals in January 2019.   The overall arrivals from SAARC countries registered a decline of 4.3% over the same month last year with 29,485 total tourist arrivals, which is about 38% more than the pre-pandemic arrivals from the region. This region recorded 37% of the total visitors’ arrivals to Nepal in January 2025.

Likewise 8191 Chinese tourists visited Nepal in January 2025, which is 12.7% more than the arrivals in January 2024. Similarly, 3756 visitors South Korea, 3219 visitors from Thailand and 1570 visitors from Japan and has been recorded in January 2025. 

The European arrivals have also sustained with growths of 3.7% increment from the key markets. Arrivals from the United Kingdom, Germany and France were 3521, 1,321 and 1,010 respectively with 7.5%, 3% and 4% growth rates in comparison with the preceding month of 2024.  The total European arrivals in January 2025 reached 10,367 with regional aggregated share of 13%.

Total number of the US visitors to Nepal in January 2025 was 8063, an increase of 14.4% over the figures of January last year. Likewise, the number of Australians visitors to Nepal in January 2025 was 4,301, which is 25.7% more than in January 2024. Middle East and Africa region recorded 685 and 292 international visitors respectively.
