Nepal Airline Corporation establishes direct air connectivity with Malaysia, Bhairahawa and KathmanduMonday, May 15th, 2023
Nepal Airline Corporation (NAC) has launched a new flight routes connecting Kualalumpur and Bhairahawa. The corporation’s narrow body airbus having a total capacity of 158 seats landed in the Gautam Buddha International Airport in the early morning on Tuesday, June 13th. This is the first commercial flight that touched the runway of Bhairahawa Airport since the opening of airport last year.
Upon arriving at the airport, the passengers were welcomed by a team comprising of Minister for Culture Tourism and Civil Aviation (MOCTCA) Sudan Kirati, Minister of State for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Sushila Sripali, Secretary at the MOCTCA Suresh Adhikary, Chief Executive Officer(CEO) at Nepal Tourism Board(NTB) Dr. Dhananjay Regmi, Director General at the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) Pradip Adhikari, Executive Chairman at the Corporation Yubaraj Adhikari.
Inaugurating the function, Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Sudan Kirati highlighted on the importance of government’s partnership with the private sector to address the challenges of giving continuity to the operation of commercial flight. State Minister Sushila Sripali stated that the airport in itself holds strategic importance for Lumbini Province from the perspective of connectivity and tourism promotion in the Asian countries.Similarly, Secretary at the MOCTA Suresh Adhikary acknowledged the fact that the commercial operation of flight will enhance the connectivity and establish a deeper relation with Malaysia. Secretary Adhikary further informed that the Ministry plans to take initiations for establishment of flight connectivity from other destinations as well.Likewise, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at NTB Dr. Dhananjay Regmi expressed hope that the operation of commercial flight will contribute in bringing more tourists following Buddhism from Malaysia to Nepal ultimately promoting the country’s tourism industry. NAC’s Executive Chairman Yubraj Adhikary reiterated that the initiative aims to establish connectivity and promote tourism between Malaysia and Nepal. Executive Chairman. Adhikary further asserted that the Nepalese migrant workers in Malaysia will be benefitted by the operation of commercial flight as it will lower the cost of flight tickets to Nepal.
The flight which took off from Kualalumpur, Malaysia disembarked some 31 passengers in Bhairahawa Airport and then took a second leg in Kathmandu where some 60 passengers got off in Tribhuwan International Airport. The passengers onboard the flight were mostly the Nepalese migrant workers returning home from Malaysia, Malaysian tourism entrepreneurs and media personnel.
