Nepal at ITB-Berlin 2017Wednesday, April 19th, 2017
BERLIN, Germany, March 10, 2017 – The 51st edition of ITB Berlin, the leading travel trade show, ended on March 12 with a positive note with active participation from Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) along with 24 travel-trade representatives. From March 8-12, 2017, over the five days of the show, more than 10,000 exhibiting companies from 184 countries and regions displayed their products and services on 1,092 stands to visitors.
The global tourism industry exhibited its latest products and trends on an area covering 160,000 square meters. At the 51st edition of ITB Berlin the number of buyers in a decision-making capacity was impressive. Two-thirds of trade visitors said they were directly authorized to buy travel products. Eighty percent of the Buyers Circle members were able to make direct decisions and had more than half a million euros at their disposal. Over one-third of the buyers present were able to spend more than ten million euros.
According to Dr. Christian Göke, CEO of Messe Berlin GmbH, under uncertain times people refuse to be put off from traveling. They are prepared to adapt to the new situation and bring their personal holiday needs into line with the changes taking place in society.
Nepal made its strong presence with 24 travel trade representatives which included tour operators, trekking agencies, hoteliers, airlines and helicopter operators, offering wide array of products such as yoga, cycling, homestay, village tour, wildlife and adventure experience, etc. to curious visitors, Europeans in particular. The first three days were reserved for B2B session where Nepal’s representatives had face to face meeting with their counterparts. With the end of this travel industry marketplace, it is believed that 2017-18 will usher into new economic growth in tourism with positive forecasts for the European economy and a resolutely favorable mood among consumers.
Visitors to the Nepal Stall showed their concern on the visa procedures, air connectivity, variation of tour packages and the most importantly their safety and security. The stall set up in the theme of temples along with prayer flags of Buddhism typically depicted cultural aspect. Besides this, almost all the natural and adventure products displayed in the stall were the hallmarks of the fair.
His Excellency, Mr Ramesh Khanal, along with Embassy officials and Joint-Secretary Mr. Dandu Raj Ghimire of the Minstry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation made several visits to the Nepal Stall and in the process interacted with officials from 24 companies. His Excellency, Mr. Jurgen Klimke, Member of German Parliament visited Nepal Stall at ITB Berlin on March 8 where he held a meeting with His Excellency Mr. Ramesh Khanal for prospects of joint tourism development between the two countries.
The Nepal delegation was led by NTB CEO, Mr Deepak Raj Joshi, along with Officiating Director – Mr. Sunil Sharma and Senior Officers Ms. Shraddha Shrestha and Ms. Ranu Shah.
Botswana, the official partner country for this year, hosted a spectacular opening ceremony in presence of the country’s President with its sustainable tourism, safaris and wildlife conservation projects, its impressive flora and fauna and its rich cultural heritage.
