Nepal Celebrates 40th World Tourism DayFriday, September 27th, 2019

Nepal celebrated the 40th World Tourism Day on Sept. 27, 2019, with the theme of “Tourism and Jobs: A Better Future For All”. The event started with welcoming of tourists who arrived by the first flight in the morning at the Tribhuvan International Airport. The welcome program at TIA was followed by rally of tourism organizations and associations from the entrance of tourist hub Thamel passing through Durbarmarg and then to newly inaugurated Ganatantra Park on the eastern side of Narayanhiti Palace, where the main event of the program was conducted. Similarly, a welcome program was held at Bhaktapur, a UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site of Kathmandu Valley.

Program at Ganatantra Park started with National Anthem followed by a moment of silence in memory of the martyrs of Nepal to whom the park is dedicated. Chief Guest at the program was Hon’ble Minister of State for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Mr. Dhan Bahadur Buda. Also present were Secretary of MoCTCA Mr. Kedar Bahadur Adhikari, Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board Mr. Deepak Raj Joshi, Joint Secretary of MoCTCA Mr. Ghanshyam Upadhyay and National Coordinator for Visit Nepal 2020 Mr. Suraj Vaidya. Present at the program were Nepal Government and NTB officials, representatives from the private sector including top officials and decision makers, tourism entrepreneurs, cultural performers and dance troupes, students and members of the media.

Program highlight included remarks from the Hon’ble Minister Mr. Buda, Secretary Mr. Adhikari, CEO Mr. Joshi and VN Chief Coordinator Mr. Vaidya. At the program, MoCTCA awarded private sector leaders and top performers of the year 2018.  Qatar Airways was awarded for carrying the highest number of tourists to Nepal; Flight Connection Domestic Private Ltd. was awarded as the highest foreign currency generator; Hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza was awarded for highest tourism employment generation; Kalinchowk Darshan Pvt. Ltd. was awarded for domestic tourism development; The Bakery Café was awarded for providing employment opportunities for differently able people; Fish Tail Lodge in Pokhara was also awarded for its corporate social responsibility  in the sector of heart health; and Buddha Air was awarded as the highest revenue payer for the year 2075/76.

Similarly, towards community homestay Shree Namche Thumki Community Homestay was awarded for their contribution towards domestic tourism. In term of expeditions Seven Summit Treks Pvt. Ltd was awarded as the highest royalty generator. NTB also awarded Mr Roman Thapa the winner of Nepal Flag video story competition with a cash prize of NPR 2 Lakh at the event. The program also included launching of a training handbook by Nepal Academy of Toursim And Hotel Management (NATHM).
