Nepal Destination Promotion Program Held in Osaka, JapanWednesday, July 2nd, 2025

Osaka, June 30, 2025 — The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), in collaboration with the Embassy of Nepal in Tokyo, organized a destination promotion event in Osaka under the theme “Nepal: Unique Nature and Diverse Culture.” The program aimed to highlight Nepal as a naturally breathtaking, culturally diverse, and spiritually significant destination—particularly as the birthplace of Lord Buddha. With strong support from the local Nepali community, the event targeted Japanese travel professionals, media, and cultural enthusiasts, offering a deeper understanding of Nepal’s multifaceted appeal.

H.E. Dr. Durga Bahadur Subedi, Ambassador of Nepal to Japan, delivered the keynote address. He emphasised Nepal’s timeless spiritual identity as the land of Buddha, its extraordinary natural landscapes from the Himalayas to the Terai and its mosaic of living cultures. “Nepal offers Japanese travelers not just sightseeing, but a deeply immersive and transformative experience,” he said. He stressed the importance of further strengthening tourism ties between Nepal and Japan, noting that collaboration with the Japanese travel trade, media, and cultural institutions will be instrumental in bringing Nepal’s story to a wider audience.

Representing the Nepal Tourism Board, Mr. Bimal Kadel, Senior Manager, presented an in-depth overview of Nepal’s tourism potential. His presentation centered on Nepal’s unmatched natural beauty, cultural richness, and its global standing as a spiritual center. “Nepal is a once-in-a-lifetime destination where adventure meets inner peace,” he said, inviting Japanese travelers to experience trekking trails, sacred Buddhist heritage sites, and the warmth of Nepal’s people. He also highlighted NTB’s commitment to tailoring tourism offerings to Japanese preferences, including wellness, heritage, and pilgrimage experiences.

The event featured remarks by several distinguished Japanese guests:
• Mr. Hiroshi Hiraguchi, Member of the House of Representatives, praised Nepal’s natural and cultural heritage and expressed strong support for enhancing people-to-people connections through tourism.
• Mr. Kunio Imanishi, Honorary Consul General of Nepal to Osaka, spoke about the need for deeper bilateral cooperation and committed to promoting Nepal-Japan tourism relations at the regional level.
• Mr. Masakazu Okada, renowned Japanese mountaineer, shared his personal experiences in Nepal’s Himalayas, describing the spiritual depth and human warmth he encountered.
• Ms. Kaoru Inaba, seasoned trekker, reflected on her recent journey through the remote Dolpa region, describing it as a peaceful haven of untouched nature and Buddhist culture.
• Mr. Akira Tanatani, author of the book “Nepal,” shared how the country continues to inspire his creative work through its visual and emotional depth.
• Mr. Satoshi Tokui, photographer, presented a photo exhibition centered on the Living Goddess Kumari, offering guests a glimpse into Nepal’s unique living traditions.

The cultural segment included a traditional flute performance by Mr. Ram Maharjan, dynamic folk dances, and a heartfelt musical performance by popular Nepali singer Mr. Ananda Karki, creating a memorable atmosphere of Nepal’s festive spirit.

The event was expertly emceed by Mr. Jigyan Kumar Thapa, who also served as interpreter, ensuring smooth cross-cultural communication.

In sum, the Osaka promotion program effectively presented Nepal as a land where nature, culture, and spirituality converge—a powerful invitation for Japanese travelers to discover the heart of the Himalayas.
