Nepal Embassy, Beijing, Hosts Nepal-China Sagarmatha Adventure Tourism & Cultural Carnival 2025Tuesday, June 17th, 2025

The Embassy of Nepal in Beijing in collaboration with Shenzhen Mountaineering and Outdoor Sports Association and the PELLIOT organized a program “Nepal-China Sagarmatha Adventure Tourism and Cultural Carnival 2025” at the Four Season Hotel, Beijing on 16 June 2025. The program was organized to commemorate the 72nd Sagarmatha Day and to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the formal diplomatic relations between Nepal and China. The objective of the program was to felicitate the Nepali and Chinese mountaineers who have successfully climbed Mt. Sagarmatha, promote ecology friendly adventure tourism and strengthen socio-cultural and people to people connections between our two countries.

In his video message Hon. Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation of Nepal Badri Prasad Pandey stated that Nepal and China are not just bonded by mountains and rivers but also by cultural and civilization ties. He mentioned Mount Sagarmatha as the common global heritage shared by Nepal and China. He thanked government of China for designating year 2025 as a “Visit Nepal Year”. He also highlighted the importance of organising tourism and cultural events as they support in deepening the bond of friendship, mutual respect and shared prosperity.
Delivering the opening remarks, Ambassador of Nepal to China H.E. Dr. Krishna Prasad Oli applauding the mountaineers for their accomplishment in ascending mount Sagarmatha, portrayed Nepal as a global center of magnificent Himalayas. Describing the anatomy of Mount Sagarmatha, he mentioned it as the biggest natural laboratory to understand relations between extreme natural condition and human physiology. He mentioned Mount Sagarmatha/Qomolagma as living symbol of friendship between Nepal and China and requested Mountaineers to contribute in promoting mountaineering and tourism in Nepal. He also emphasized on the need to jointly work for the protection of the Himalayas from the adverse effect of climate change.

In his video remarks, H.E. Chen Song, Ambassador of China to Nepal highlighting the Mount Sagarmatha as natural miracle and spiritual bond connecting Nepal and China stated that China is willing to join hand with Nepal to strengthen cooperation in ecological protection, green development and climate governance. Likewise, in his remarks Mr. Wang Shi, Honorary Chairman and Founder of Vanke Foundation and Deep Rock group while sharing his memories of climbing Mount Sagarmatha emphasized on need to collaborate for conservation and promote sustainability as climate change is adversely affecting Himalayan region. Ms. Archana KC Rana, Senior Manager of the Nepal Tourism Board, made presentation on the Mountain Tourism and Culture of Nepal. Ms. Roshan Khanal, Deputy Chief of Mission/Minister provided vote of thanks to all the participants and organizations providing direct and indirect support for the successful organization of the event.

Six prominent mountaineers three each from Nepal and China shared their experiences of climbing the Mount Sagarmatha. A video featuring experience of the Mountaineers ascent to Sagarmatha was played. During the program 73 Mountaineers 70 Chinese and 3 Nepali were honored with “Certificate of Appreciation” for successfully scaling Mt. Sagarmatha. Likewise, Certificate of Appreciation was provided to Shenzhen Mountaineering and Outdoor Sports Association and the PELLIOT for their partnership and cooperation in the programme.

During the event eight different non-governmental and private sector organizations from Nepal and China working in the field of Mountains and its conservation issued joint China-Nepal Environment Statement expressing their commitment in conserving the Himalayas, promoting eco-friendly climbing, cleaning up the mountains and in exchanging knowledge and technologies.

Nepali cultural products were exhibited by Beijing based Nepali entrepreneurs. Likewise, Nepali cultural performance was performed by Nepali community. A song on “Himalaya” composed by H.E. Dr. Krishna Prasad Oli, Ambassador of Nepal to China, was also presented. Around 250 participants including representative of Chinese Government, Beijing based diplomats, Nepali and Chinese mountaineers and entrepreneurs, travel and tour business agents of China and Nepal, media were present in the programme.
