Nepal Evening – Lumbini & BeyondFriday, March 17th, 2023
Nepal Tourism Board in collaboration with Nepal Embassy Myanmar and Bangkok successfully organized “Nepal Evening-Lumbini & Beyond..” destination promotion event in Yangon and Bangkok on 12th and 15th March 2023 respectively. This event is a part of Buddhist Tourism Promotion in BIMSTEC region.
The main objective of the event done jointly with Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nepal was to promote Greater Lumbini, Spiritual Tourism and other lifetime experiences Nepal has for the visitors. Addressing the august gathering of representatives from travel, trade, hospitality, aviation and media from both Myanmar and Thailand, respected Ambassadors of Nepal highlighted the strong diplomatic relations shared between our nations which is defined by shared traditions, religion, culture and linguistic linkages since decades.
NTB. CEO Dr. Dhananjay Regmi in his remarks emphasized on the need of direct connectivity between Yangon and Nepal. Dr. Regmi also highlighted on the operation of the new international airports and requested the Myanmar Airlines to start direct flights to Nepal. Dr. Regmi assured the airlines for providing all necessary support and assistance to facilitate the process for possible flight connection from Gautam Buddha International Airport. Dr. Regmi also assured the Bodhgaya Tourism Committee to coordinate with the local service providers, hotels and Lumbini Development Trust to provide all local assistance for tourists in Lumbini like required for Chartered Flights.
His Excellency Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Harishchandra Ghimire stated that Nepal to be an attractive destination for Myanmar people including the historical role played by then UN Secretary General U Thant for the development of Lumbini, good number of Nepali origin people living in different parts of Myanmar, about 90% Myanmar people are Buddhist and they wish to pray in Lumbini once in their life time and Nepal is perfect blend of nature, culture and adventure destination in the world. Mentioning tourism business opportunities after opening the new international airports in Bhairahawa and Pokhara, Ambassador Ghimire urged the airlines companies to start direct flights from Yangon and Mandalay to Bhairahawa, travel and tour companies of both countries should have business agreements with inclusion of possible tour packages that include Lumbini and surrounding Buddhist sites and other culture, nature and adventure sites of Nepal.
The program was attended by Reverend Monks, Chairman of Bodhgaya Tourism Committee, CEO of Myanmar International Airlines, Mt. Everest Summiteers and high-level representative from Myanmar Travel Associations.
His Excellency Ambassador of Nepal to Thailand Mr. Ganesh Prasad Dhakal also highlighted the importance of Thai tourists to Nepal and said that the Embassy is encouraged by the growing numbers of visa issuance in recent days. HE urged the Thai Tourism fraternity to push Nepal sales and assured any kind of assistance to be provided from the Nepal Mission in Bangkok to facilitate tourism promotion. Ms. Varunee Acharya the Tourism Goodwill Ambassador also highlighted the Nepal’s tourism in the program.
Ms. Shradha Shrestha, Manager Nepal Tourism Board gave a special presentation on Lumbini and Beyond, highlighting the greater Lumbini sites and parallelly promoting Nature, Culture and Adventure activities with Lifetime Experience. Ms. Shrestha thorugh her presentation also promoted the upcoming Buddhist International Travel Mart and the PATA Annual Summit & Adventure Mart in both the places.
Mr. Paul Pruangkarn Chief of Staff of PATA officially announced the PATA Annual Summit and Adventure Mart in the Bangkok program as well.
Both the events saw an overwhelming presence from the tourism fraternity from both Yangon and Bangkok. Mr. Rajeev Jha, Officer NTB well moderated both the events.
