Nepal, Mountains and the UK: A Bond of Unparalleled AdmirationSunday, June 8th, 2025
Nepal’s timeless allure of mystical mountains and spiritual adventures continues to resonate deeply with the people of the United Kingdom. Building upon this shared admiration, the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and the Embassy of Nepal in London jointly hosted an inspiring Nepal Destination Promotion Evening in London on 6 June 2025. The event celebrated the strong and historic ties between Nepal and the UK while promoting Nepal’s rich offerings for mountain and adventure tourism.

The evening drew a packed house of travel trade professionals, mountaineers, media, and Nepal enthusiasts who were captivated by personal stories, cultural performances, and visions of sustainable tourism in Nepal.
H.E. Mr. Chandra Prasad Ghimire, Ambassador of Nepal to the UK, opened the program by underscoring the enduring Nepal-UK relationship, which has remained at the heart of the consistent flow of British visitors to Nepal for decades.
Renowned mountaineer Mr. Migma David Sherpa inspired the audience with legendary tales of Himalayan ascents and highlighted the spiritual connection between climbers and mountain ecosystems, emphasizing the importance of preserving Nepal’s natural heritage.
Speaking on the future of Nepal’s tourism, Mr. Deepak Raj Joshi, CEO of NTB, outlined the Board’s focused strategy to position the UK as a priority market for driving sustained growth in Nepal’s tourism sector. “We see the UK as not just a strong market, but a long-standing partner in celebrating and sharing the magic of Nepal’s mountains and cultural experiences,” he said.
Highlighting the Government of Nepal’s dedication to ensuring a world-class tourism environment, Dr. Narayan Prasad Regmi, Director General of the Department of Tourism, reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to tourist safety, seamless services, and protection of tourism investments.
The evening offered a carefully curated experience through engaging presentations, cultural performances, and experience-sharing sessions — giving participants a vivid preview of what Nepal offers for today’s discerning traveler.
The UK continues to be one of Nepal’s largest European source markets, contributing a major share of European arrivals for over three decades. With increasing demand for authentic, sustainable, and adventure-rich experiences, Nepal is well positioned to welcome even more British travelers in the years to come.
