Nepal Participated at PATA ATRTCM 2019 in Rishikesh, IndiaTuesday, February 19th, 2019

Nepal Tourism Board in coordination with PATA Nepal Chapter along with 6 different travel trade companies successfully participated in PATA Adventure Travel and Responsible Tourism Conference and Mart 2019 organized by the Pacifica Asia Travel Association (PATA) from February 13, 2019 to February 15, 2019 in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, India.

The program hosted by Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board comprising of a one-day conference followed by a day of travel mart was attended by 300 delegates from 28 different countries. The event was jointly inaugurated by Shri Dilip Jawalkar, Secretary Tourism – Government of Uttarakhand; Shri Suman Billa, Joint Secretary – Ministry of Tourism, Government of India; Dr. Mario Hardy, CEO – PATA; Shri Yogendra Tripathi, Secretary – Ministry of Tourism, Government of India; and Honourable Minister Shri Satpal Maharaj, Minister of Tourism – Government of Uttarakhand. The event brought together international experts in the field of responsible and adventure tourism along with the niche buyers and sellers from around the globe to discuss on the current issues, strengths and challenges in tourism and travel industry.

The one day conference held on 14th February, 2019, allowed participants to hear from diverse-line of speakers from different session. The conference was based on the theme ‘‘Rejuvenate Your Soul Through Travel’. Many big names in the field of adventure tourism along with innovators and pioneers participated in the conference topics that covered ‘Rejuvenating Your Soul Through Travel’; ‘Storytelling to Sell Travel on Instagram’; ‘Using Sustainability to Future-Proof Our Destination’; ‘Trends to India’; ‘Creating Experiences that are Regenerative’; ‘Marketing to the New Adventure Travellers’; ‘Tourism as a Tool for Rejuvenation’; ‘A Special Story of Indian Rejuvenation’, and ‘Sustaining our Souls: Vision-Driven Leadership in Adventure Tourism’.

Ms. Shradha Shrestha, Manager from Nepal Tourism Board was invited for panel discussion on topic- Tourism as a Tool for Rejuvenation. Ms. Shrestha highlighted the role of Nepal Tourism Board in promoting Community Based Tourism in Nepal through the involvement of locals for enhancing the travel experience for tourists.

The travel mart held on Feb 15 focused on B2B sessions with interested buyers finding their compatible Destination Management Companies. Buyers were from different parts of the world while those who visited Nepal Stall included buyers from Canada, United States, United Kingdom, South Korea, China, to name a few. Members from the private sector appreciated the mart and said the goings were good with connections to seemingly genuine international partners.

It was also a great opportunity for Nepal Tourism Board to promote the campaign Visit Nepal 2020 highlighting Nepal as a value destination for buyers seeking adventure and responsible tourism packages from India and other parts of the world.
