Nepal Presents its Diverse Beauty at ITB BerlinMonday, April 2nd, 2018

The 52nd edition of ITB Berlin, the world’s leading travel trade show, completed on March 11 with a positive vibes with active participation from Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) along with 33 travel-trade representatives. The Nepal stall was built with attractive and authentic theme of Nepalese culture, cuisine and adventure. The Nepal’s stall was able to showcase its inner beauty of peace and happiness with the backdrop of white Himalayas and yellow colour pillar flags. Its two story stall accommodating travel and tour operators in ground floor and hotels and meeting area in the balcony was the add-ons making above participation more effective. The stall was also highly appreciated by the visitors and representatives of Nepal. From March 7-11, 2018 over the five days of the show, more than 10,000 exhibiting companies from 186 countries and regions promoted their products and services in 26 halls on Berlin Exhibition Grounds to visitors.

 

ITB Berlin was able to showcase its standing as the World’s Leading Travel Trade Show where around 110,000 trade and around 60,000 general public also visited in the fair. The fair was successful to overcome the challenges and to adopting the new innovations on packaging and digitization in the global travel industry. The partner region Mecklenburg- Vorpomemern, a state of North Germany organized the spectacular opening ceremony followed by cocktail dinner where Ms. Angela Markel, Chancellor of Germany inaugurated the fair. Mr. Zurab Pololikashvuli, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization also put his remarks on the growing global tourism industry.

 

 Dr. Christian Göke, CEO of Messe Berlin GmbH said that the consistent forecasts of sustained global economic growth for the next two years decisively contributed to the positive mood among exhibitors and visitors these past few days.

 

Nepal made its strong presence with 33 travel trade representatives which included tour operators, trekking agencies, hoteliers, airlines and operators, offering wide array of products such as trekking, adventure experience, wild life, mountain flight, yoga, cycling, village tour etc. to curious visitors, Europeans in particular. The first three days were reserved for B2B session where Nepal’s representatives had face to face meeting with their counterparts. With the end of this travel industry marketplace, it is believed that 2018-19 will usher into new economic growth in positive growth from Europe, an established market of Nepal’s tourism. Nepal expects the benefits from the backdrop of booming economy, record low employment and more and more enthusiastic consumers of Europe. Nepal eyes to grab to strong euro appealing Nepal a value added destination to European consumers.

 

The Experience Nepal a networking program through Cuisine and Culture ‘Cocktails, Cuisine and Conversations’ was also organized by Nepal Tourism Board on 3rd day of ITB fair. The program was concentrated to highlight Nepalese cuisines in the amid presence of dignitaries and valuable buyers and travel trade of Nepal. Around 200 participants have experienced Nepali menu with Nepalese instrumental music. His Excellency Mr. Ramesh Prasad Khanal, Ambassador of Nepal to Germany added his remarks on the importance of Nepal’s tourism in Germany and European market. Mr. Deepak Raj Joshi, Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board was highlighted the Experience Nepal campaign, mentioning Nepal is an ultimate tourism destination for Experience Tourism. Mr. Dil Gurung Schauler, HPRR of Nepal Tourism Board was also put his remarks on Nepal’s tourism which has been popular since its presence in ITB Berlin of 1987 edition. Mr. Santosh Bhattarai, HPRR of Nepal Tourism Board, Mr. Ram Pratap Thapa, Honorary Consul of Nepal to Colonge, Germany, Mr. Jiba Lamichhane, former President of Non Resident Nepalese Association (NRNA) were also welcomed and participated the networking with the guests. The program was conducted by Ms. Shraddha Shrestha, Manager of Nepal Tourism Board where the officials of Nepal Embassy and Nepal Tourism Board welcomed the guests. The Experience Nepal program was concluded followed by delicious Nepalese cuisines.

 

His Excellency, Mr Ramesh Khanal, along with Embassy officials and Director General of Department of Tourism, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Mr. Dinesh Bhattarai made several visits to the Nepal Stall and in the process interacted with officials from 33 companies and also expressed their views to journalists and visitors. Mr. Jur Klinke, the former parliament member and South Asian Division Chief of Germany visited to Nepal stall and expressed his vibes for continuous effort on Nepal’s tourism.

 

The Nepal delegation was led by NTB CEO Mr. Deepak Raj Joshi, along with Mr. Dinesh Bhattarai, Director General of Department of Tourism, Manager of Nepal Tourism Board – Ms. Shraddha Shrestha, Mr. Suman Ghimire, and Officers Mr. Pradip Basnet and Ms. Janaki Upadhyay.
