Nepal Received Tourism Abode of the Eastern Himalayas Award at Bengal Travel Mart 2026Monday, January 12th, 2026

Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has been conferred the prestigious “Tourism Abode of the Eastern Himalayas” Award at the 9th edition of the Bengal Travel Mart (BTM) 2026 being held from 9 to 11 January 2026 at The Cinderella Hotel, Siliguri, India. This recognition reflects the consistent efforts of NTB for positioning Nepal as an experiential tourism destination in the Eastern Himalayan Region.

NTB along with travel trade companies from Nepal and tourism-sector representatives from Koshi and Madhesh Province participated in the mart organized by Eastern Himalayas Travel and Tour Operators’ Association (EHTTOA). The BTM is one of the most significant tourism trade events in Eastern India that provides a dynamic platform for tourism stakeholders, buyers, sellers and media from across India, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal. BTM has provided an opportunity for collaboration on cross border tourism promotion between Nepal and India.

During the 3 days of the mart, the exhibitors from Nepal showcased their tourism products, services and activities customized for the travelers of West Bengal. They had a good opportunity to showcase the packages of Nepal and establish business relationships with the buyers from India and Bhutan. NTB staff at Nepal stalls disseminated first-hand information to the visiting people about the new tourism products of Nepal especially that of Koshi and Madhesh Province. They had distributed Nepal promotional materials including Travelers’ Information, Maps, Posters and Souvenirs. NTB Officials also briefed the media as well as local enthusiasts visiting Nepal stall. NTB was represented by Mr. Mani Raj Lamichhane (Sr. Director), Mr. Khadga Bikram Shah (Sr. Manager) and Mr. Surendra Singh Lama (Support Staff). Before commencing the mart, on 7th of January, Sr. Director Mr. Lamichhane briefed the local media in a Press Meet organized in Sliliguri Journalists’ Club.

Mayor of Siliguri Mr. Gautam Dev inaugurated the mart by lighting of the lamp in a formal program organized in the evening of 9th January at Savin Kingdom. Mr. Mani Raj Lamichhane spoke in the program highlighting the tourism products of Nepal and extended his warm invitation to the fellow participants to visit Nepal especially while Koshi Province is celebrating Visit Koshi Year (2082) and Madhesh Province is planning to organize Visit Madhesh in 2083.

On the evening of 10th January, ‘Nepal Night Cultural Program’ was organized amid the presence of travel trade invitees and media to highlight Nepal as a prominent tourism destination for Indian travelers. Sr. Director Mr. Lamichhane welcomed the participants and urged to visit Nepal in their upcoming holidays. Sr. Manager Mr. Shah made a presentation on tourism products of Nepal highlighting the border to West Bengal, Koshi as well as Madhesh Province and covering the major attractions and activities of Nepal. Nepali cultural dances were also performed during the night to entertain the audience. As a friendly gesture, NTB along with Koshi Province team presented a token of love to Dr. Prerna Chamling, Additional Secretary of Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Government of Sikkim. Similarly, with Madhesh Province team, token of love was presented to Mr. Karma Wangdi, Marketing Manager of Department of Tourism, Bhutan. NTB also handed over a token of love to Mr. Sandipa Ghosh, Chairman of BTM and Mr. Suresh Thakuri, President of EHTTOA. Nepal night program was followed by networking dinner.
