Nepal Tourism Board Engages with Chinese Delegation to Enhance Tourism CollaborationFriday, January 10th, 2025

Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) hosted a 14-member Chinese delegation led by Su Yang, Director of the International Division of the China Film Administration, to discuss strategies for strengthening tourism ties between Nepal and China on January 10, 2025. Senior Managers Laxman Gautam and Sunil Sharma represented NTB, emphasizing the importance of cultural exchanges in promoting tourism.

The Chinese delegation included notable personalities such as actress Yu Hong, renowned for her role in “G for Gap” and recipient of two Golden Rooster Awards; Zheng Zheng, Deputy Director of the Market Department at China Film Administration; Owen Yang, head of Tiger Pictures Entertainment; Jing Jiao, director of “Personal Persistence”; Lu Wei, screenwriter for “Life of Luosang”; Zhang Gudong, director; and Zhang Yudi, director of “Midsummer Voice.”

The meeting underscored the role of cinema in fostering cross-cultural understanding and attracting tourists. Films serve as powerful tools in tourism promotion by showcasing a country’s landscapes, culture, and heritage to a global audience. For instance, film-induced tourism has led to significant increases in visitor numbers to locations featured in popular movies and television series.

Collaborative film projects between Nepal and China have the potential to boost tourism by capturing the scenic beauty and cultural richness of both nations. Such initiatives are expected to enhance mutual understanding and contribute to the economic development of the tourism sectors in both countries.
