Nepal Tourism Board Showcased Resilience and Recovery at ITB Berlin 2023Thursday, March 23rd, 2023

Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) participated in ITB Berlin 2023, the world’s leading travel trade show, held from March 7 to 9, 2023. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, NTB showcased Nepal’s resilience and recovery as a major tourism destination.
The very first post-pandemic live edition of ITB Berlin 2023, taking as its slogan ’Mastering transformation’, came to a successful end on 9th of March 2023 in Berlin, Germany. With around 5,500 exhibitors from 161 countries, the World’s Leading Travel Trade Show maintains its position as the leading platform for the global travel industry. The Trade Show was back for the first time as an exclusively B2B event and confirmed its standing as the leading platform of the global travel industry. Over the three business days a total of 90,127 attendees from more than180 countries were in Berlin. ITB Berlin also attracted considerable media attention, with around 3,000 media members and 333 travel bloggers and high-profile international political figures at the event.
The pandemic had a significant impact on Nepal’s tourism industry, with only 0.7 million tourists visiting the country in 2022. However, the country is gradually opening up to international travelers and is taking necessary measures to ensure their safety.
Nepal delegation led by Nepal Tourism Board including 24 companies from travel tourism and hospitality industry participated in this grand event. Nepal stall in ITB Berlin was jointly inaugurated by Secretary of Ministry of Culture Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) and Chairman of Nepal Tourism Board Mr. Suresh Adhikari, Ambassador of Nepal to Germany His Excellency Mr. Ram Kaji Khadka and Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board Mr. Dhananjay Regmi on 7th of March 2023. Nepal stall showcased the religious, cultural and geographical aspect of the country.
Embassy of Nepal in Germany in partnership with Nepal Tourism Board hosted ‘The Cultural and Tourism Event of Nepal for the Economic Forum 2023 as a sideline event of ITB Berlin on 7th of March 2023. Mr. Suresh Adhikari, Secretary, Ministry of Culture Tourism and Civil Aviation highlighted the various aspects of Nepalese tourism and urged the foreign delegates presented in the event to promote Nepal as one of the best tourist destinations. His Excellency Mr. Ram Kaji Khadka, Ambassador of Nepal to Germany focused on the art, culture and economic diplomacy shared between Nepal and Germany. Dr. Dhananjay Regmi, CEO, Nepal Tourism Board presented destination Nepal focusing of the various tourism products and specialties of Nepal. The event was followed by a panel discussion and unveiling of a book “Nepal: A journey from East to West” published by Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN). The program was attended by around 150 participants including local tour operators, delegates of ITB 2023 from Nepal, representatives from HAN and Nepalese community residing in Germany.
On March 8, 2023, Dr. Dhananjay Remi, CEO Nepal Tourism Board, announced the hosting of Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Annual Summit and Mart 2023 in Pokhara, Nepal from May 29 – June 1. The announcement was made during a networking lunch organized by PATA as a sideline event of ITB Berlin 2023.
NTB’s participation in ITB Berlin 2023 highlights the country’s resilience and recovery in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. It also demonstrates Nepal’s commitment to promoting sustainable tourism and developing the country’s tourism industry.
