Tilaurakot, the ancient capital of the Shakya dynasty and the early home of Siddhartha Gautam before he became Buddha, holds immense tourism potential. The newly issued stamp, showcasing an artifact dating back approximately 2,800 years, serves as a testament to the region’s rich cultural heritage. The release of this stamp aligns with Nepal’s commitment to heritage tourism, a key component of NTB’s sustainable tourism strategy.
NTB Chief Executive Officer Deepak Raj Joshi emphasized the importance of initiatives that preserve and promote Nepal’s historical sites, stating: “Tilaurakot is not just a historical landmark but a living testament to Nepal’s rich Buddhist heritage. The issuance of this postage stamp enhances global recognition of Tilaurakot and reinforces our dedication to achieving UNESCO World Heritage status for the site. Nepal Tourism Board remains committed to promoting Tilaurakot as a must-visit destination for travelers, historians, and spiritual seekers alike.”
Recognizing the critical role of historical sites like Tilaurakot in attracting both domestic and international travelers, NTB has been working closely with the Lumbini Development Trust and other stakeholders to enhance the visibility of Buddhist heritage sites. Key efforts include improved infrastructure, guided heritage tours, and digital campaigns aimed at showcasing Tilaurakot’s significance to a global audience.
NTB encourages visitors to explore Tilaurakot and experience its timeless legacy. As Nepal moves forward in its UNESCO recognition efforts, NTB remains dedicated to heritage conservation and sustainable tourism, ensuring that local communities benefit while preserving Nepal’s invaluable historical treasures.
