Nepal’s Presence in Vietnam International Travel MartWednesday, April 5th, 2023
Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), the National Tourism Organization, with an objective of promoting Nepal as a premier holiday destination and destination for Buddhist pilgrimage, is participating at Vietnam’s iconic travel fair Vietnam International Travel Mart (VITM) 2023 from April 13-16, in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, along with four companies from travel and trade viz. Trekker Nepal, Kathmandu Guest House Hospitality Group, Himalayan Three Sixty and Yangla Travels.
Vietnam is a burgeoning economy in the ASIAN region and is gradually seeing the rise in outbound travelers which has highest potential to Nepali tourism. Nepal has been one of the sought after destination for Vietnamese nationalities following the direct flight from major Indian cities especially Indian capital New Delhi. After VietJet’s flight to New Delhi from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) since mid of 2022, many Vietnamese of Buddhist faith have arrived to Lumbini – The Birthplace of Lord Buddha via land in the Buddhist Circuit. Only in 2022, as per the Department of Immigration data 8,598 Vietnamese arrived in Nepal mostly from Belahiya immigration point.
Marking the 12th edition of Vietnam International Travel Mart (VITM) 2023, Nepal’s presence in the event has been a very remarkable one since Nepal Tourism Board along with Nepalese travel and trade last participated in this very travel mart on 2016. Organized by Vietnam Society of Travel Agents (VISTA), the tourism fair is one of a kind in the outbound travel. Among the South Asian region, Nepal is the only country to participate in the travel mart in this occasion from the level of National Tourism Organization.
The diplomatic ties between Nepal and Vietnam dates back to 1975. In recent history, high level state visit was observed by former Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli to Vietnam on invitation of the then Prime Minister of Vietnam His Excellency Nguyen Xuan Phuc on May 2019. On their joint statement, both leaders agreed to enhance exchange and cooperation in culture, tourism and people-to-people interaction. While Vietnamese side expressed support in sending tourists especially to Lumbini and Buddhist pilgrims of Nepal. Similarly, aviation authorities from Nepal and Vietnam had agreed on direct flight connectivity between the two nations on 2015.
Apart from pilgrimage, Nepal is the perfect tourist destination for most of the tourists as the country offers lifetime experiences. With the given the multi-cultural background of the country, tourists can also enjoy the events and cultural festivities. Nepal is not only blessed with unparalleled scenic beauty, arcane valleys, sublime temples and majestic Himalayas but it’s also the birthplace of Lord Buddha, an apostle of peace.
