NTB gears up for the coming season to attract more Indian tourists With stupendous queries from the Indian tourism fraternity about the coming season for tourists from India, Nepal is earmarked to be on highly preferred destination among the Indian visitors.

The three day OTM 2023 show in Mumbai which concluded on 4 th February in the dazzling JioWorld Center in Mumbai has helped put Nepal on revival path to past glory. With post Covid travel nuances still looming large globally, Indian travelers are looking at short haul destinations and Nepal is expected to reap benefits of new trend and disruption.

Nepal stays afloat in Indian market with initial signs of high enquires by the Indian tourism fraternity as Nepal concluded its campaign for strong arrival of Indian tourists for the year 2023. The pitfall in the OTM 2023 Tourism expo in Mumbai has provided the much needed impetus to the efforts of Nepal Tourism Board. Nepal Tourism Board along with Nepal Airlines and twenty other Travel Tour operators have entertained the visiting trade counterparts and visitors with all the required information on Nepal’s plans for the tourism growth from Indian market. OTM Mumbai 2023 boasted of more than 1100 exhibitors, 55 countries and 29 Indian States with more than 30000 visitors observing the extravaganza over three days.

Nepal received more than 2, 00,000 Indian tourists via air in the year 2022 and with encouraging arrival in January 2023, the year is already in reckoning. Mumbai serves as the largest source market for all Indian outbound travelers accounting to 60% of traffic. India is the number one source market for Nepal constituting almost 30% of total tourist arrival.

Between 2009 and 2019 outbound tourism from India increased 143 percent from 11 million travelers to 27 million and is projected to reach 28.5 million in 2025. Reportedly, outbound trips from India would surpass $42 billion by 2024. As the post-crisis tourism recovery conversation still doing the rounds, India has clearly outperformed other Asia-Pacific countries with a faster outbound and is expected to restructure the order of outbound market.
