NTB Honors BBC Master Chef Santosh Shah & Team from UK – Press releaseSunday, April 17th, 2022

Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) honored the finalists of BBC Master Chef: The Professionals 2021 on Sunday, April 17. At a function in Kathmandu, the team led by Mr. Santosh Shah and including celebrity chefs Mr. Alex Webb, Mr. Bart van der Lee, and Ms. Philly Armitage, were joined by Dr. Dhananjay Regmi, Chief Executive Officer of NTB, Board Member Mr. Ngawa Ngima Sherpa, Ms.  Milan Devkota, Senior Director Ms. Nandini Lahe Thapa, Director Mr. Maniraj Lamichhane, and others.

While congratulating the team, CEO Dr. Regmi, stated that Mr. Shah has added a new dimension to Nepal’s tourism by introducing Nepali cuisine to the world. “As a tourist destination, Nepal is regarded as a beautiful country. However, since Master Chef Mr. Shah introduced Nepali cuisine to the world, the message has spread that Nepal is also an important destination for culinary tourism,” said Dr. Regmi. Chef Mr. Shah expressed his pride at bringing Nepali cuisine to the international stage. He also urged the team that accompanied him to return to Nepal and experience the country firsthand. Similarly, Mr. Webb, Mr. Lee, and Ms. Armitage expressed their delight at visiting Nepal and learning about the country’s art and culture.

NTB Senior Director Nandini Lahe Thapa stated that, Nepal’s tourism is slowly returning to normalcy following COVID-19, and celebrity chefs’ visits to Nepal have added to Nepal’s tourism promotion while promoting authentic Nepali cuisine to the world. The team haS been in Nepal since April 7, 2022, for the ‘Master Chef Finalists Tour to Nepal’, organized by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Nepal Chapter in co-ordination with the NTB’s post-pandemic tourism revival campaign.
