NTB Hosts Online Media Briefing To Apprise Of Ongoing Work

 
Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) held an online press conference with national journalists on Monday, May 4, 2020. The meeting was organized with the objective of disseminating information regarding NTB’s activities during the crisis and its initiative to revive the tourism industry that has seen a huge loss followed by the COVID-19 outbreak. Chief Executive Officer of NTB Dr. Dhananjaya Regmi briefed representatives from the media about the ongoing effort put forth by the Board to sustain the tourism industry in this difficult time of crisis.

Online Survey Of Tourism Business Operators In Nepal

 
Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) invites all concerned Tourism Business Operators in Nepal to participate in this online survey intended to assess data so that the Board can make recommendations to the Government on possible support to the tourism industry to overcome the crisis brought about by the COVID-19 outbreak. The data being collected by NTB shall be kept safe and private. The data will not be used for anything other than the intended purpose. The data will be accessed only by the CEO and the NTB director designated by the CEO.

NTB Meets With Private Sector Representatives To Discuss Recovery Plan

 
Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) met with the Tourism Associations on May 3, 2020, to discuss tourism recovery in the post-COVID 19 period. At the program, NTB CEO Dr. Dhananjay Regmi presented a summary of the recent industry survey conducted by NTB and shared a tentative survival plan seeking industry feedback on the same.

Online Meet With Private Sector Tourism Partners From All 7 Provinces

 
In an effort to keep communication on with the private sector tourism industry in the provinces, to collect suggestions for relief and to consolidate recovery efforts, Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) organized online meetings with key tourism stakeholders from all 7 provinces from Apr. 28, 2020 – May 5, 2020.

CEO of NTB Dr. Dhananjay Regmi chaired the meetings attended by representatives from the hotel and travel trade industry from all 7 provinces.

Seventy-Three Tourists Rescued From Pokhara To Kathmandu

 
Seventy-three tourists including French, German, Spanish, Dutch, Italian, Norwegian, Swiss, Swedish, Polish, and UK nationals were safely transferred from Pokhara to Kathmandu on Apr. 30, for a flight back home on May 2, 2020. 
Similarly, three Japanese tourists from Machhikhola, Manaslu Circuit, Gorkha were rescued by Dharche Rural Municipality on Apr. 25, 2020. They were transferred safely to Kathmandu.
Sixty-five Sri Lankan students studying in Manipal College of Medical Sciences (MCOMS) were also transferred safely to Kathmandu and were facilitated with repatriation home on April 24, 2020.
Earlier 23 tourists were rescued from Pokhara on Apr. 16, 2020. Among them, 10 tourists were from France, and seven were from the United Kingdom. Similarly, eleven Korean tourists were rescued from Pokhara to Kathmandu on Apr. 9, 2020.
The rescue was coordinated by the respective Embassies in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Nepal. Details of rescue and evacuation can be accessed from trade.welcomenepal.com

Buddha Jayanti

Buddha Jayanti is a special day for both Hindus and Buddhists in Nepal. On this day people celebrate the life of Lord Buddha; his Birth, Enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana (Death). Lumbini, in the western Terai plains of Nepal, is the place where Prince Siddhartha (known as the Buddha) was born. The newly-born Prince is believed to have taken seven steps and uttered a timeless message to all humanity. It is believed that this happened in the beautiful Sal grove, which is now the focal point of the Lumbini Garden area. 

 

Everest Day
May 29, 2020

 
Nepal celebrates Mt. Everest Day on May 29 every year in memory of the first summit of Mt. Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa on the day in 1953. The day is celebrated with memorial events, processions, and special events in Kathmandu and the Everest region. The Mt. Everest Day celebration has been a significant occasion for the promotion of Nepal’s mountain tourism.
