Status Update
1) The meeting of Council of Ministers held on Saturday, May 30th, 2020 has decided to extend the nationwide lockdown till midnight, June 14th, 2020.
2) The meeting has also decided to continue the suspension of international flights till midnight, June 30th, 2020.
3) Closure of Immigration services is to continue until midnight, June 14th, 2020.

Story Of The Week
As COVID 19 brings the world to a standstill including a climbing season on Everest, we spoke to a few eminent Sherpa climbers about what keeps them busy sans Everest. In keeping with the magnanimity and kindness of the mountain cultures, many in the Sherpa community have wholeheartedly devoted themselves to relief and rescue work for those affected by the pandemic Lockdown. DHE Mustang Virtual Tour
Explore the mysterious village of Dhe located in the Mustang district in the next installment of Story Cycle’s Virtual Heritage Tour. The tour, led by Dr. Fidel Devkota will guide you through the culture, history, and heritage of the Dhe people, from places of social, cultural and religious significance to agropastoralism and how it has been affected by climate change in recent times. The tour is part of the Virtual Heritage Tour organized by Story Cycle, in coordination with the British Council, and Nepal Tourism Board as the promotional partner.

Tharu Children’s Story Book Series Launched Online
Bhukali is a Tharu children’s book written by Dr. Krishna Raj Sarbahari and illustrated by Shradhha Shrestha. It is 1 out of 6 books created by Srijanalaya for The Asia Foundation’s Let’s Read platform. Six books available in 4 different languages (Dangaura Tharu, Bara Jilla Tharu, Nepali, and English) can be read from letsreadasia.org. This read-aloud was a part of “From Kailari to Bara”, a week-long Tharu children’s picture book festival which started from May 30 till June 5, 2020.

TIA Upgraded With Sanitation & Hygiene Protocols Intact To Ensure Travelers’ Safety
On June 8, 2020, Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) officials visited the Tribhuwan International Airport along with officials from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) and Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) team. The existing facilities have been significantly upgraded include many new additions to both the passenger service area and the aircraft operations. An additional parking area, a newly constructed passenger waiting area at the Departure Hall, a brand new exit from arrival, additional baggage belts, an extension of the RESA, etc. are some of the many things that have been upgraded at TIA. They have ensured proper practice of social distancing right from the taxi drop to departure, including inside the bus and aircraft.

Ropain Rice Planting Festival

The “rice planting festival” of Nepal is one of the country’s most important monsoon season festivals which marks the first planting of the premier staple crop. Ashar Pandhra or the fifteenth of Ashar is the day when the crop planting season officially begins.

The birthday of Lord Krishna is celebrated as Krishna Janmashtami. Krishna, the dark-skinned god revered as a manifestation of Lord Vishnu, who taught warrior Arjuna the value of Karma in the Bhagwad Gita, was born at midnight on the eighth day of the dark moon of August which is known as Ashtami.
