Western Travel Mart Starts in NepalgunjSaturday, March 12th, 2022

Western Travel Mart program (WTM) has begun in Nepalgunj, Banke, since Mar. 11, 2022, as part of the joint project between Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and the Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan Municipality. The mart was organized with the goal of increasing tourism activities in Nepalgunj, its surrounding areas and the Karnali region. NTB CEO Dr. Dhananjay Regmi was also present in the inauguration ceremony. The head of the endangered Raute tribe, Mr. Surya Bahadur Shahi lit a lantern to inaugurate WTM at the Siddhartha Hotel grounds.

Dr. Dhawal Shamsher Rana, Mayor of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan Municipality, stated that the mart was organized to promote tourism in Nepalgunj and its surrounding areas, and he expressed confidence that the mart would further establish Nepalgunj in the field of hospitality. Similarly, NTB CEO, Dr. Dhananjay Regmi, stated that because India is Nepal’s largest market, the NTB has targeted Indian border towns and invited tour operators and stakeholders in the region to the event. He emphasized the importance of promoting travel packages to Bardiya and hilly areas via Nepalgunj. The event has been locally organized by NATTA Banke Chapter, with assistance from other tourism-related organizations.

NTB has invited about 50 tour operators and media persons from Lucknow, Delhi and other bordering Indian cities to promote tourism in the western Nepal region and promote the region among the Indian travelers. About 35 tour operators, hoteliers and tourism service providers have set up stalls at the mart. Stalls featuring tourist attractions from all provinces have been built to promote domestic tourism. Sales of tour packages in the region were promoted on the first day of the mart through business interaction between participating tour operators from India and local tourism entrepreneurs. Tourist arrivals are expected to rise as the mart’s project promotes regional tourist destinations and activities.
