NTB at Neftalk Program on Tourism in Digital Era in KathmanduMonday, June 13th, 2022

Sr. Director of Nepal Tourism Board Ms. Nandini Lahe-Thapa, spoke about the evolution of tourism in the digital era at the Neftalk program organized by Nepal Economic Forum on June 13, 2022. Ms. Thapa shared the experience of how NTB turned to the digital platform for steady promotion and communication during the global pandemic creating visibility of Nepal among the audience and garnering positive response from world’s tourism fraternity.

With the digitization of all sectors and talks about virtual reality, metaverse etc digital is the way forward for tourism and the global tourism is totally dependent on it, said Ms. Thapa. Daily thematic posts on social media handles (Soothing Sunday, Mythical Monday, Trekking Tuesday, Wellness Wednesday, Thrilling Thursday, Foodie Friday, Sustainable Saturday), well run interactive websites for different markets and segments, and reaching out to the world and domestic audience through celebrity influencers, have been effective to a great extent in digital promotion of Nepal in the current times, said Ms. Thapa. These continuous efforts have also helped in rebranding of Nepal as a unique lifetime destination offering holistic experiences of culture, nature cuisine, wellness, healing etc. more than mountains and adventure that it has established itself in the past.

The program was moderated by Chair of Nepal Economic Forum Mr. Sujeev Shakya, and was participated by a panel of speakers including Ms. Ambika Khurana, Public Policy Director of Netflix. Mr. Jason Shah, Co-Founder of Hotel Nextdoor and Raithane; Ms. Lisa Choegyal, Tourism Specialist and Convener of Sustainable Summits; Ms. Ramyata Limbu, Director of Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF), all three the main speakers of the panel spoke about different aspects of Nepal tourism in current scenario. The program dissected key aspects of digital tools in the promotion of tourism and had a full-house attendance from officials, professionals and entrepreneurs with stake in the tourism sector.
