NTB in Association with NARA Conducts Rafting Training for Women at Sunkoshi MunicipalityWednesday, June 15th, 2022

Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) will provide training to women in the village through the Sustainable Tourism for Livelihood Recovery Project (STLRP) from June 15 to 29. The Nepal Association of Rafting Agencies (NARA) is partnering with the STLRP project to provide free training to 53 women from various districts. which was organized for the first time in Nepal for women,

At the inauguration CEO of NTB Dr. Dhananjay Regmi said that the training would be very helpful in the development of skill and human resources in water tourism. He encouraged participation in the training program and pledged commitment from NTB for development of the sector in collaboration with Nepal Association of Rafting Agents (NARA).

Ms. Kalpana Sarkar, Portfolio Manager of the UNDP, appreciated the work of STLRP project which was launched earlier with the goal to assist tourism workers and to retain the tourism workforce through the pandemic.

Similarly, President of NARA Mr. Shiva Adhikari, said that this was a pioneer program that provided free training to female river guides in collaboration with NTB. He also spoke about maintenance of the river system making rafting clean and safe for sustainable river tourism. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Narayan Shrestha, General Secretary of NARA, stated that the training was organized with the goal of increasing the engagement of women in water tourism activities while also providing them with a source of income. Representative of Sunkoshi Village Municipality, Mr. Deepak Shrestha, who was also at the program stated cooperation from the Municipality in such programs.

National Program Manager of STLRP Mr. Gyaneshwor Mahato was also part of the program and spoke about the different aspects of how the training would be conducted.
