Women being Trained to Raft for the first time in NepalWednesday, June 15th, 2022
From June 15 to 29, Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) will provide training to women in the village through the Sustainable Tourism for Livelihood Recovery Project (STLRP). The Nepal Association of Rafting Agencies (NARA) is partnering with the STLRP project to provide free training to 53 women from various districts.
Dr. Dhananjay Regmi, CEO of NTB, said at the training’s inauguration that the training, which was organized for the first time in Nepal for women, is expected to be a cornerstone for manpower development in water tourism. Dr. Regmi urged people to take this training not just for training purposes, but also to pursue a career, furthermore, he pledged to provide additional training in collaboration with NARA.
According to Ms. Kalpana Sarkar, portfolio manager of the UNDP, the STLRP project was launched with the goal of assisting migrant workers in earning a living, as they are experiencing the most difficulties following COVID 19. Mr. Shiva Adhikari, president of NARA, said that for the first time in Nepal’s history, NARA has launched free training for female river guides in collaboration with the Tourism Board and the STLRP project and advised the residents to keep the river clean and safe. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Narayan Shrestha, General Secretary of NARA, stated that the training was organized with the goal of increasing the attraction of youth and making women self-sufficient, as female voyage participation was low. Representative of Sunkoshi Village Municipality, Mr. Deepak Shrestha, said that they are ready to move forward by cooperating with the village committee and NARA while Mr. Gyaneshwor Mahato, National Program Manager of STLRP, informed that theoretical and experimental classes will be given in the training which will be conducted from June 15 to June 29.
