Sustainable Tourism for Livelihood Recovery Program (NTB in Partnership with UNDP)Wednesday, August 3rd, 2022
Ms. Kanni Wignaraja, UN Assistant Secretary General, Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific, observed the 15-km foot and cycle trail built as a part of the COVID response plan in Chandragiri, Kathmandu, which provided short-term jobs to tourism workers while developing tourism infrastructure. UNDP Nepal in collaboration with Nepal Tourism Board, provided short-term employment to around 5,600 individuals in Nepal in 2021.
Over fifty women were trained on rafting skills that will allow them to become professional raft guides. The training session was conducted as a part of STLRP by NTB and UNDP in coordination with Nepal Association of Rafting Agencies (NARA). This skill-based training aims to empower the poor and vulnerable women in order to enhance their skills and provide employment opportunity that will ultimately support in their livelihood.
