Int’l Mountain Cross Country Competition 2023 Concludes SuccessfullySaturday, November 25th, 2023

Nepal-Pokhara International Mountain Cross Country Competition in Pokhara and Annapurna Region concluded successfully in the tourist city of Pokhara. The event jointly organized by Nepal Tourism Board, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nepal and Pokhara Metropolitan City was co-organized by Hotel Association Pokhara and Yunnan Mountaineering & Outdoor Sports Association. The function inaugurated by Chief Minister of Gandaki Province, Surendraraj Pandey, emphasized the importance of tourism for economic development in Pokhara and the support of Chinese government for promotion of Nepal as a hub for Sports Tourism.

The event held with the theme ” Run for Prosperity” had four categories including Group (40 km) and Individual (38 km) competition along with Students Race (5 km) and Love Run : For All (3 km). The Group comprising 3 individuals, covered the distance by running (22km), cycling (17km) and boating (1km) in Phewa lake.

Athletes from both Nepal and China performed well in the intense competition. Nepal’s Suman Kulung, Ramesh Limbu and Indrakala Nembang stood first in the 40km Group Race and won NPR Three Lakhs Sixty Thousand. Similarly, Basanta Tharu, Mukesh Tharu and Shrebi Maharjan won the second place with NPR Two Lakhs Eighty-Eight Thousand followed by Shreekesh Rai, Tilak Sunuwar and Keshari Thapa Magar in the third place with NPR Two Lakhs Sixteen Thousand.

In the 38 km women’s individual category, Manju Rawat won the first place followed by Padam Kumari Sunuwar and China’s Zheng Junyue in the third place. Similarly, the men’s side had Homlal Shrestha in the first place followed by Bed Bahadur Sunar and Tirtha Bahadur Tamang in the third place winning NPR One Lakh Forty Four Thousand, One Lakh Eight Thousand and Fifty Four Thousand in both the categories.

In the 5 km Student Race for boys, Krishna Pariyar of Kumudini Homes Academy stood first, followed by Tenjon Magar of Chhorepatan School and Badal Karki of Kaski Modernized Academy in the second and third place. Likewise, Narayani Bhandari of Chhorepatan School, Angela GT of Meghraj Basic School and Geeta Shrestha of Tal Barahi School stood first, second and third. The award for all three winners of both categories were NPR Twenty Thousand, NPR Fifteen Thousand and NPR Ten Thousand respectively.

The delegation of athletes, media personnel and technical teams from Kunming, China had arrived Pokhara in a chartered flight on Thursday to participate in the competition.

Prize distribution and closing ceremony of the event was organized in the same evening followed by dinner hosted by Nepal Tourism Board. The ceremony was attended by Chief District Officer of Kaski district, Security Chiefs of the district, Vice President of Nepal Olympic Committee and other high ranking officials from both countries.

During the ceremony, CEO of NTB, Dr. Dhananjay Regmi expressed his enthusiasm for the success of the event and congratulated all participants for their sportsmanship and achievement. Mr. Regmi thanked everyone involved directly and indirectly for the success of the event and mentioned the importance of such events to help Pokhara position as an adventure destination globally thereby increasing the flow of Chinese and other international tourists in this beautiful city.
