Nepal and China: Building Bridges in the Tourism Industry at Chengdu B2B SessionMonday, June 10th, 2024

Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and Consulate General of Nepal in Chengdu in association with Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) has successfully conducted the destination promotion with B2B session in Chengdu city of China on 6 June, 2024. In a one-day B2B and destination promotion program, sixty hoteliers from Nepal interacted and exchanged business propositions with more than hundred tourism professionals from China.

The program aimed to strengthen and broaden the network with Chinese tourism professionals in making a prominent presence of Nepalese tourism products and services in the China’s business centers having prospective tourism outbound market. The Chinese tourists inflow to Nepal recorded 60875 during 2023 and counted 38290 within first four months (Jan-April) of 2024.The increasing trend can be accelerated through effective marketing activities that supports the outreach of Nepali tourism products and services.

The joint declaration of “Year 2025 as Nepal Visit Year in China” by President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal in September 2023 has rejuvenated the China’s outbound tourism to Nepal. Events such as cultural festivals, participation in Travel expos, campaign-based destination promotion, sales missions, seminars, digital marketing campaigns through different social media, travel partnerships etc. can play pivotal role in reinforcing and implementing the leadership commitment. 

Welcoming all the guests and participants in the program, President of HAN Mr. Binayak Shah, expressed his commitment to provide the unique experience and comfortable accommodation facilities in Nepal. He added Nepal had world class accommodation facility that could cater 3.5 million tourists and was eagerly waiting visitors from China to serve with exclusive hospitality that created lifetime experiences.    

Similarly, Mr. Youb Raj Shrestha, Treasurer of HAN, shared the status of Nepali hotels and hospitality standards together with the immense tourism potential that China holds for beautiful country Nepal

Mr. Wang Hong, Deputy General Manager of Sichuan Tourism Investment Group, Mr. Wang Zhaoxue, President of Sichuan Association Association of Travel Agencies, Mr. Leng Xiaoming, Deputy Director, Chengdu Foreign Affairs also attended the program and welcomed all the delegates from Nepal in China 

Mr. Santosh Panta, Director of Nepal Tourism Board highlighted the tourism prospects of Nepal with a detailed presentation covering diverse perspective of arena including tourism products, services, destinations, cultural events collaborated with Embassy of China, access, Chinese tourist focused initiatives, etc. 

Mr. Suresh Raut, Consul General of Nepal for Chengdu, China, assured the participants that the Embassy would extend all possible support for Nepal’s tourism promotion in China. He also emphasized that promotional events, executed based on source market’s interest towards product preferences, should be arranged more often. He reiterated that Embassy would always be very keen to support such initiatives.

Mr. Sajan Shakya, General Secretary of HAN, in his concluding remarks, thanked Consulate General of Nepal in Chengdu, Nepal Tourism Board, all guests and participants from Nepal and China for the support to make the program a grand success. 

A wave of innovative ideas emerged at the session, focused on boosting visitor experiences and fostering cultural exchange between the two countries. The participants also explored joint marketing initiatives and cross-promotional campaigns to achieve these goals. Over 200 participants from a diverse array of tourism experts, ranging from tour operators and hoteliers to travel agencies, media and government representatives from China attended the networking session followed by dinner. The Nepali Cultural Performances by the Nepalese students of Chengdu was the major attraction of the program. Delegates departed with a revitalized commitment to foster long-term partnerships and to reinforce regained enthusiasm in the tourism industry of Nepal. Travel and hospitality industries in both the countries is expected to gain new insight through the collaborative efforts sprouted during the program.
