Mundum Trail Visit Year 2025Thursday, January 16th, 2025

Nepal Tourism Board is pleased to announce the celebration of the ‘ Mundum Trail Visit Year 2025’ and has aimed at promoting the rich cultural heritage along with natural beauty on the Mundum Trail of eastern Nepal. This is an initiative under which more than 100,000 domestic and international tourists will be attracted this year.

The Mundum Trail passes through the areas dominantly inhabited by the Kirat community-Sankhuwasabha, Bhojpur, Khotang and Solukhumbu districts of Koshi Province. Renowned for its easy trekking routes, the trail offers a perfect combination of natural scenery and culture. Shed stay, orange harvest, shaman rituals and Sakela Ubhauli and Udhauli festivals are some of the major attractions of the Kirat culture.

The 80 kilometre-long trail varies in altitude between 2,300 metres at Chakhewa and 4,110 metres at Silichung Hill offering spectacular vistas of six peaks over 8,000 metres – Mt Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, and Lhotse among others.

The festivals and events will be organized in different parts of the region to showcase the various cultural and natural aspects of the region during the Visit Year. They are the Rhododendron and Horse Riding Festival in Temke Maiyung Rural Municipality, Honey Hunting and Gothstay Festival in Kepilasgadhi Rural Municipality, and Ultra Marathon and Mountain Cycling in Bhojpur Municipality. These events have been aimed at providing immersive experiences for the visitors with regard to the local traditions and ways of life.
