Prioritizing the safety of mountain climbers and trekkers, the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has handed over emergency rescue equipment to the Himalayan Rescue Association Nepal (HRA). The equipment was handed over at the Board’s office in Bhrikutimandap on Thursday, with the aim of further supporting the safety of climbers and trekkers in the Everest and Annapurna regions.

During the handover program, Deepak Raj Joshi, Chief Executive Officer of NTB, stated that the Board has been continuously working to ensure the safety of mountain tourists in Nepal. He said, “Nepal’s Himalayas are a global attraction. Nepal Tourism Board remains fully committed to ensuring the safety of climbers and tourists visiting these mountains. We also see our cooperation with the Rescue Association as contributing to the sustainability of Himalayan tourism.”
Similarly, Board Member Narendra Dev Bhatt mentioned that rescue operations are not only about emergency response but also crucial for ensuring Nepal’s credibility in tourism. He added that rescue and risk management efforts will be made more systematic in the coming days. Another Executive Committee Member, Rishi Bhandari, noted that safety in the Himalayan regions is closely linked with environmental sensitivity, and such support helps promote responsible tourism.

Receiving the equipment, HRA President Dambar Parajuli expressed gratitude to the NTB and said, “Rescue equipment is extremely essential when working in challenging regions like Everest and Annapurna. This support from the Board will make our rescue operations more effective and prompt.”
The program was attended by HRA CEO Govinda Basyal, other officials of the Association, NTB personnel, and individuals working in mountain tourism. The event was facilitated by NTB Senior Officer Siddhartha Bishwakarma.
On the occasion, the Board handed over 20 carabiners, 4 mechanical ascenders, 5 descenders, 4 pulleys, 5 slings, 5 ice screws and pickets, 4 belay devices, 4 anchors, and 5 sleeping bags to the Association.
The Nepal Tourism Board expressed confidence that it will further strengthen rescue and safety infrastructure in the Himalayan regions in the coming days through expanded cooperation with the private sector and local communities.
