NTB Press Release
Manang , 27 Jan
The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), in collaboration with the Nepal Mountain Instructors’ Association (NMIA), is jointly organizing a two-week ice climbing training under the 7th Ice Climbing Level One Program in Humde, Manang, from 27 January to 5 February 2026.

The program formally began with a soft opening in Kathmandu on 23 January, featuring theoretical classes and outdoor orientation sessions to prepare participants for the intensive field-based training in the high Himalayas.

The training aims to strengthen technical ice-climbing skills, promote international safety standards, and create employment opportunities in the mountaineering sector. It aligns with Nepal’s long-term vision of delivering world-class, safe, and professional mountaineering services from the Himalayas, where Nepalese climbers are globally recognized as among the finest mountain and climbing guides.

A total of 36 participants are undergoing the training under the guidance of 11 highly experienced instructors. The curriculum includes hands-on use of essential climbing equipment such as ice axes, crampons, harnesses, helmets, carabiners, belay devices, slings, and ropes, along with rope fixing, anchor building, safety and protection systems, rescue procedures, and practical field applications essential for high-altitude and technical mountaineering.

The field-based training in Humde was attended by NTB Senior Director Mr. Hikmat Singh Ayer and NTB Manager Mr. Bimal Kadel, demonstrating NTB’s and NMIA’s shared commitment to capacity building and professional development in the mountaineering sector.

Upon successful completion, participants will receive internationally recognized certification, enhancing their professional credibility and employability both in Nepal and across the global mountaineering industry.
