Bhote Koshi Flash Flood: Information Desk to be Established in NTBSunday, August 30th, 2026

A meeting of government agencies and tourism-sector representatives has called for intensified search and rescue efforts of tourists reported missing following the devastating flash flood in the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers on 26 August 2026.

The meeting, led by Ramkrishna Lamichhane, Director General of Department of Tourism and Hikmat Singh Ayer, Officiating Chief Executive Officer of the Nepal Tourism Board, was attended by around 40 representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Tourist Police, Hotel Association Nepal (HAN), Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN), Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA), Association of Kailash and Manasarovar Tour Operators and other tourism organizations.

The meeting decided to:

• Establish a dedicated information desk comprising representatives from the Nepal Tourism Board, Department of Tourism, Tourist Police, TAAN, NATTA, HAN, Hotel Professional Federation Nepal (HPFN) and the Association of Kailash and Manasarovar Tour Operators to regularly share information on rescued and missing tourists, as well as updates on the situation.
• Request tour and travel companies to provide verified details of missing tourists through designated focal persons and coordinate with relevant embassies regarding their nationals.
• Ensure families of missing tourists receive accurate and timely information through the concerned tour and travel companies.
• Request, through the Ministry, the establishment of a dedicated cell within the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) for coordinated information on tourists who have been rescued, reported missing or confirmed deceased.
• Request tourism businesses to provide details of damaged tourism infrastructure to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and NTB.
