Sophie Morgan Highlights Accessible Tourism in NepalSunday, September 13th, 2026

British broadcaster, travel writer and disability rights advocate Sophie Morgan recently visited Nepal and shared her experiences of travel, adventure, accessibility and inclusion. At “Journeys Without Barriers: Sophie Morgan in Nepal,” held on Friday at Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu, Morgan reflected on her journey across Nepal, including her travels from Kathmandu to Upper Mustang, and shared valuable perspectives on making Nepal’s tourism experiences more accessible to travellers with disabilities.Highlighting Nepal’s warm and hospitable culture as a strong foundation for inclusive tourism, Morgan emphasized that systemic improvements, including accessible infrastructure and accurate, reliable accessibility information, are essential to enabling travellers with disabilities to explore Nepal with greater independence and confidence.She also called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders, improved accessibility information and investment in accessible infrastructure to help Nepal realize its potential as an inclusive tourism destination.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sunil Sharma, Officiating Director of Nepal Tourism Board, highlighted that tourists with disabilities, along with their families and companions, represent an important and growing opportunity for destinations such as Nepal. Nepal took an important step towards accessible tourism by opening its first accessible trekking trail in Kaskikot in 2018, which has also been recognized as a certified accessible trail.
