Tourist Arrival Figures-July 4, 2013Friday, July 5th, 2013

The figures released by Immigration Office, Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) reveal that visitor arrivals in the month of June 2013, compared to the same month last year, have decreased by 4.6% to 41259.

In aggregate, the South Asian segment has registered negative growth of 12.5%. India which constitutes the major market of Nepal, has recorded negative growth of 15.3 %. Also, arrivals from Pakistan have decreased by 28.8 %. However, arrivals from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka haveĀ  increased by 53.8% and 62.9% respectively.

Arrivals from Asia (other than South Asia) have also recorded positive growth of 20.8% in aggregate. The visitor arrivals from China grew by 25.7 % compared to the same month last year. Similarly, the arrivals from Malaysia and Singapore have also increased by 195.1% and 3.5% respectively. Japan , South Korea and Thailand markets saw declines of 10.5%, 23.4% and 18.8% respectively.

An overall positive growth of 1.4% has been observed from the European markets with arrivals from markets such as the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain up by 2.6%, 14.7%, 24.5%,6.1% and 15.9% respectively. However, arrivals from France, and Russia have declined by 2.3% and 10.6% respectively compared to the same month last year.

Tourist arrivals from Australia have increased by 33.3%. However arrivals from New Zealand, Canada and the USA have decreased by 5.6%,12.9% and 2.3% respectively. Between January to June 2013, international tourist arrivals to Nepal have declined by 3.9 % to 282,429 in aggregate.

A total of 503,12 foreign tourists departed from TIA in June 2013. The number of Nepalese arrivals stood at 57931 while 82167 Nepalese departed from TIA in June 2013.
