Experience Nepal in CITM, ChinaMonday, November 19th, 2018

The 20th edition of China International Travel Mart (CITM) 2018 was held in Shanghai, China from Nov 16 to 18. Hosted by Ministry of PRC, Civil Aviation Administration of China and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, CITM 2018 attracted 2245 booths with 1542 domestic exhibitors and 703 overseas exhibitors hailing from 107 countries and regions. In addition to cultural promotion and presentation by various destinations from across the globe, about 573 overseas buyers from Europe, US and Asia met with more than 1000 sellers in the 3 days of the event.

Since its inception in 1998, CITM has in the process of 20 years assisted in the development and the growth of China’s tourism industry. CITM has continuously improved with the time and innovation and has developed into one of the largest and most influential tourism professional trade fairs in the Asia Pacific region. It has built an important stage and created platform and opportunity for developing international and domestic tourism cooperation. 

China is now the 2nd largest inbound market for Nepal. Chinese tourists are attracted to Nepal for the natural and cultural experience that Nepal has to offer. Chinese tourists are mostly interested in leisure tours and travel in groups with Kathmandu valley, Pokhara, Chitwan and Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha being their choice of visit.

This year the Chinese tourists’ arrival number has seen a whopping growth of 48% till September as compared to the same period in 2017. 109,497 tourists have so far visited Nepal (air arrival) till September as compared to 73,607 in 2017.

Nepal Tourism Board participated in CITM 2018 along with 5 private sector companies from Nepal. The tourism companies from Nepal were Adventure Outdoor, Creative Adventure Nepal, Fishtail Tours and Travels, Outdoor Expeditions, Saathi Nepal Travels and Tours.
