Nepal promoted in ItalyWednesday, July 10th, 2019

Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) with an objective of promoting Nepal as an exotic Himalayan holiday destination for Lifetime Experiences in Europe has participated 102nd International Convention of Lions Clubs International, which was held in Milan, Italy from July 5th to 9thJuly 2019. Multiple District 108 Italy has hosted this year convention in Milano Congress (MiCO) Convention Centre.

Lions clubs International is the largest service organization in the world, committed to humanitarian activities, with about 1.5 million members in 210 countries. This Lions International convention program in Milan has received more than 21000 participants from 150 different countries. This is the biggest Annual Global Event of Lions Members, to select their president and other different officials of the international club, In this conference Lions members came with their families and friends to Milan. More than 600 Lions members of Nepal had participated in this Convention. Dr Jung Yul Choi has been elected as a new President of Lions Clubs International and other officials were also elected during the convention.

International Parade of the Nations was organized on 6th July 2019 in Corso Venezia, Milan. More than 10,000 Lions from 150 countries participated in the Parade with their Nation flag and native dresses. Along with the international participants, local Lions of Italy and general public were present on the street to welcoming the Parade participants.

In this convention,38 international Exhibitors has taken part with their stalls in MICO Convention Centre, among them Singapore and Nepal are the prominent countries which have promoted their destination products. Nepal Tourism Board’s Nepal Booth has exhibited the Nepal’s promotional material and showcased the tourism services industry with special focus on promoting Visit Nepal 2020 campaign. During the Convention Special program of Nepal Night was also organized by Nepal’s Lions Clubs International MD 325 on 7th July, 2019 with support of Nepal Tourism Board to highlight the Visit Nepal 2020 Campaign among the international prominent dignitaries of Lions International.

This Lions International convention program is important for Nepal as Nepal is celebrating Visit Nepal 2020 with an objective to bring 2 million tourists in Nepal. One of the major objectives of this campaign is to give life time experience to the visitors to Nepal through different activities and events opening up new tourist destinations for travelers.

According to the data of 2018, the tourist arrivals from Italy was15,318 out of total number of 1,173,072 tourists which was 29.4% higher as compared to the tourist arrivals of 11,840 out of total tourist arrival of 940,218 in 2017.

Given the growing popularity of Nepal in Italy with its historical ties, and visible participation of Nepalese big delegation in such a Global international event in Italy gave us the ideal platform for fresh promotions and more visibility of Nepal as an adventurous, safe and exciting destination and the latest information and updates to the outbound tour operators, media people of Italy.
