Nepal’s participation at the Tourism Expo Japan 2019 organized from 24 to 27 October 2019 in INTEX Osaka concluded successfully with special highlight on Visit Nepal 2020 among the trade, media and consumers attending the fair. The expo was organized jointly by Japan Travel and Tourism Association (JTTA), Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) and Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO). Tourism Expo Japan previously known as JATA Fair which is the biggest travel fair organized in Japan Is the appropriate platform for showcasing destinations and providing opportunities for travel fraternity to exchange travel information and conduct effective business meetings. Osaka became the first host city of Tourism Expo Japan outside Tokyo for the first time.
This year’s Expo organized in Osaka was a very special event for Nepal in the context of Nepal Airlines direct flight operation between Kathmandu and Osaka. The expo provided the ample opportunity for Nepal to update the tour operators, travels agents and the consumers about the operation of direct flights between these two cities. It was also witnessed during the show that many visitors to Nepal pavilion expressed their happiness on the operation of direct connectivity between Japan and Nepal.
During the expo Visit Nepal 2020 campaign was the major highlight of Nepal. Lots of queries from the trade, media and consumers were received concerning the campaign. Besides the showcase of major tourism attractions from Nepal pavilion, some sideline meetings were also held between the NTB officials and the high level representatives of Japan, Bhutan, Cambodia, Laos, Bangladesh, Myanmar & Malaysia during the expo. The NTB officials and the representatives of the respective countries discussed about cooperation and partnership for mutual benefits. The representatives of these countries also expressed their concern to extend their support to Nepal for making VN 2020 campaign successful.
Nepal’s participation at the Expo was led by Nepal Tourism Board in coordination with six tourism companies from the private sector: Club Himalaya, Hotel Annapurna View, Yeti Travels, KGH Group, Divine International Explore and Treks, and Geology Tours and travels. Nepal Tourism Board was represented in the event by Mr. Khem Raj Timalsena, Senior Officer and Mr. Kundan Sharma, Senior Officer.
According to the organizers, the show was participated by 1985 exhibitors with the participation of 100 countries and many inbound and outbound companies. It was estimated that about 120000 visitors visited the show. Japanese visitors prefer Japan is a Japan, with predominantly Buddhist population, is an established market for Nepal. Most Japanese view Nepal as the birthplace of Lord Buddha, a pilgrimage destination, spiritually healing and fulfilling. They usually visit Kathmandu, Lumbini, Pokhara, Chitwan and trek in the Annapurna or Everest region. Japanese visitors to Nepal are usually high-end tourists who are educated and have spending power.
