Successful project completion in joint coordination with UNDPThursday, April 1st, 2021
NTB in partnership with UNDP recently concluded “Immediate Livelihood Support for the most vulnerable workforce in tourism sector.” The main objectives of the project was to safeguard livelihoods of the vulnerable workers associated with tourism sector that have lost their jobs and sources of income in tourism due to Covid-19 by receiving short-term employment opportunities to meet their immediate livelihood needs.
The joint program was capitalized in the following five local levels:
a) Annapurna Rural Municipality, Kaski District
b) Madi Rural Municipality, Kaski District
c) Khumbu Pasang Rural Municipality, Solukhumbu District
d) Pokhara Metropolitan City, Kaski District
e) Janakpurdham Sub-metropolitan City, Dhanusa District.
A total number of 250 informal workers of tourism sector were supported by providing a 45 days paid-work- package on the basis of cash-for-work modality. Trekking routes were renovated in four local levels except in Janakpurdham where cleaning campaign program was launched. The response generated was overwhelming, participatory and cost and time effective. The achievement made was really appreciated at local level and was exemplary in setting out both top-down and bottom-up approach.
