NTB & IFC Together for Virtual Investment Summit on Nepal’s Heritage ResourceThursday, April 29th, 2021
In an effort to use the current times of the global pandemic crisis in a constructive and reflective mode and to encourage investment in up market heritage tourism sector, Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) conducted Virtual Investment Summit for “Utilizing Nepal’s Heritage Resources for Tourism Recovery and Sustained Growth” on April 27.
NTB CEO Dr. Dhananjay Regmi opened the forum with introduction of Nepal’s strength as a heritage rich country with world renowned UNESCO Cultural Heritage Sites like Kathmandu Valley and Lumbini – Birthplace of the Buddha, and numerous other sites across the country which could easily be turned into upmarket properties to position Nepal among those looking for high value destinations. Dr. Regmi said that historical and dilapidated sites abound in the country and high end properties could be developed in places like Rani Mahal in Palpa, Tilaurakot in Kapilvastu, Lo Manthang in Mustang with thorough research, proper planning and good investment. Such initiatives would lead to conservation, community engagement as well as sustainable tourism development for quality tourism, according to Dr. Regmi.
IFC Resident Representative Mr. Babacar Sedikh Faye also spoke at the program emphasizing that Nepal needed to capitalize better on its high value assets for which the potential is large. He said the forum was ideal to reflect on heritage resource investment opportunities across Nepal.
Understanding Nepal’s Hospitality Market Demands & Threats, Heritage Based Accommodation Investment Case Studies, Heritage Investment Opportunities and Models, were presented and discussed at the first virtual summit on April 27. The program videos from each session are available on: http://nepalheritageinvestments.com/schedule/ Registration for the next installment of the event coming up on Tuesday May 4 is also available on the website homepage.
