MoU Signed Between Nepal Tourism Board and Wakayama Prefecture, Japan for Sustainable Tourism CooperationMonday, February 16th, 2026

Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and Wakayama Prefecture of Japan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cultural ties and promote sustainable tourism cooperation between Nepal and Japan.
The signing ceremony held at Nepal Tourism Board was signed by NTB CEO Mr. Deepak Raj Joshi and His Excellency Mr. Izumi Miyazaki, Governor of Wakayama Prefecture, in presence of Hon. Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Mr. Anil Kumar Sinha.
The agreement focuses on joint tourism promotion and marketing, exchange of tourism-related information and best practices, expert and official exchange visits, enhanced communication and public relations; and promotion of culture, heritage and sustainable tourism development.
Welcoming the Japanese delegation, Hon. Minister Anil Kumar Sinha highlighted the significance of the collaboration in context of the 70th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Nepal and Japan. He emphasized that the partnership would provide a strong foundation for advancing sustainable and responsible tourism in both countries.
His Excellency, Governor Izumi Miyazaki expressed his pleasure in formalizing cooperation with Nepal, acknowledging the country’s rich history and cultural heritage. He conveyed confidence that the agreement would further enhance tourism exchanges between Nepal and Wakayama Prefecture.
Tourism Secretary Mr. Mukunda Prasad Niraula remarked the MoU as a historic milestone in strengthening the long-standing relationship between the two countries. He noted the agreement is well-timed to diversify Nepal’s tourism markets while strengthening the shared cultural values of both countries.
CEO Deepak Raj Joshi stated that Japan remains one of Nepal’s key tourism source markets and described the MoU as a strategic bridge connecting destinations, knowledge and opportunities, paving the way for expanded collaboration and new possibilities of innovation and mutual growth in tourism development.
