NTB Delves into Future TourismSaturday, March 1st, 2025

Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), in collaboration with the Society of Economic Journalists Nepal (SEJON), organized a thought-provoking event titled “Changing Trends: Rethinking Nepal’s Tourism,” bringing together experts to discuss innovation and evolving global tourism trends on February 28, 2025.

The keynote speaker, Professor Kaye Chon from the prestigious Hong Kong Polytechnic University, presented insights on the transformation of global tourism from the 1950s to projections for 2030. He emphasized how Asia-Pacific has emerged as a key player in the industry, accounting for 48% of global hotel development and housing some of the world’s best airports and hospitality services.

Nepal Tourism Board CEO Deepak Raj Joshi highlighted Nepal’s potential in embracing these global shifts. “Professor Chon’s insights provide valuable perspectives on how Asia is shaping the future of global tourism. Nepal, with its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty, must innovate and adapt to remain competitive,” he stated.

Joshi further emphasized the importance of digital transformation, service excellence, and investment in skilled human resources to strengthen Nepal’s tourism industry. He also echoed concerns about work-life balance challenges in the hospitality sector, as highlighted by Professor Chon.

SEJON President Sujan Oli welcomed participants, stressing the need for collaboration in driving Nepal’s tourism forward.

The event served as a platform for dialogue on emerging tourism trends, the role of innovation, and Nepal’s positioning in the evolving global tourism landscape.
