National Geographic Charter Plane Brings High-End American Tourists to KathmanduTuesday, April 8th, 2025

The National Geographic-branded aircraft landed at Tribhuvan International Airport on April 4, 2025, bringing 77 affluent American travelers to Kathmandu. The group arrived as part of an exclusive, month-long global journey originating from Seattle, USA.

The visit, centered around experiencing Nepal’s art, culture, and heritage, included excursions to iconic sites such as Bouddhanath, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, and Pashupatinath. The trip has been managed in Nepal by Yeti Holidays.

Nepal Tourism Board CEO Deepak Raj Joshi stated that the arrival of the National Geographic charter is a powerful signal that Nepal can attract high-end global travelers seeking meaningful cultural experiences. These types of tourists not only contribute significantly to the economy through their high spending but also serve as ambassadors who promote Nepal’s unique offerings around the world. He added that with strategic investment in high-quality infrastructure and premium services, Nepal can establish itself as a preferred destination for luxury tourism.

During their time in Nepal, the group reportedly spent between USD 40,000 to 45,000 per day on accommodations and food.

Nepal Tourism Board remains committed to positioning Nepal as a high-value destination and welcomes such initiatives that showcase the country’s potential for premium tourism experiences.
